Beth's Story
After high school I spent about 1 year in college (NCCC). I couldn't afford to continue my education so I went to work. I spent 12 years working in various stores in the Lehigh Valley Mall & 1 former candy store in Whitehall Mall. In 2001, I went to work at the Pet Supplies Plus store on Union Blvd. In 2003 I left the pet store to go work at Walmart (that was the biggest mistake of my life!). Since 2004 I've married, moved to North Carolina for 2 years, and now I'm back in PA (Kresgeville/ Polk Township-think West End Fair in Gilbert). My husband, Garry, and I are raising my 15 year old nephew Gio. Right now I'm not working due to a disability stemming from an old injury that began acting up. I would rather be working.
The best thing I liked about working at the pet store was getting to see a few of my old friends from school and even some of my former teachers. Sgt. & Mrs. Coleman would stop in to get dog food for the newest generation of our mascot husky pups they were still raising. Another teacher who was a regular customer at the store was Mr. Geist (from Harrison-Morton Middle School- the Social studies teacher whom those of us who had as a teacher thought he was so m...Expand for more
ean!). He's not as mean now that he's retired. Mrs. Kish, the girl's gym teacher, would stop in also.
Two teachers I would like to see again are Mr. Carpenter and Mrs. Kelly. I haven't seen them since high school. Some of my friends I would like to get back in touch with are: Vicki Bates, Jen Orlando, Kerri Livering, Coleen Schafer, Mark Howell, Mark Holubek, Carol Hausman, Jane Sorber, Debbie Wolfe,Sherri Metchoe,Jessica Minar and Kristin Talaber. I know I'm missing some poeple. As I think of them I'll list them.
If I had to do things all over again, I would have studied harder, stayed in college and become that vetrinarian I wanted to be in middle & high school.
I would, however, would also like to open up my own candy/gift shop someday. I worked in various candy stores and grew to LOVE the candy industry. I love making up gift baskets for people and just working with people is what I ended up being best at. Funny though, since when I was in high school I didn't take any business classes because I swore I would never work in any store or office! Now I could just kick myself for not doing that.
My husband Garry and I have started our own Watkins business!
