Bethany's Story
Life
In 1999, I met the wonderful man who would later become my husband at a conference in Atlanta, where I was living at the time. We remained distant friends, but did not start dating until 2000. In June 2001, we became engaged one year to the day of our first date. In May 2002, we tied the knot at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit and have been happily married ever since. We currently reside just outside of Portland, OR. It's a long way from home, but a beautiful place to live. Nonetheless, Detroit is always my heart, and I love coming home at every opportunity!
College
After high school, I entered the dual degree engineering program through Spelman College and Georgia Tech. In 5 years, I completed a Bachelor's degree at each school - a Chemistry degree from Spelman and a Chemical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech. I also later completed my MBA in 2002 at Georgia State University.
Workplace

engineer, I developed a passion for recruiting as I became involved with campus recruiting efforts. As a result, I decided to begin part-time graduate work towards an MBA and took human resources courses as a part of my program. While I was in the midst of my MBA program, I accepted a new position within Kimberly-Clark to lead college recruiting initiatives for science and engineering talent. I ended up loving the job so much that I decided I no longer wanted to be an engineer and chose to pursue a career in human resources. In September 2002, four months after I got married, my husband was offered a promotion to move to Portland, OR and we decided to take it. As much as I was unsure about leaving Kimberly-Clark and Atlanta after so many years, I thought it would be good to experience another part of the country. After taking a relaxing sabbatical from work for a few months, I snagged a wonderful opportunity to work at the Nike, Inc. World Headquarters in Portland. I continue to work there today as a staffing manager, leading the finance recruiting team.
