Bettijane Burger:  

Life Bettijane Christopher was born Oct. 23 in Morgantown, WV. She is a graduate of WVU where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority and editor of the yearbook. She has a master's in English from the University of Hawaii and began her teaching in Honolulu at Farrington High School's theatre. She married Tom Burger, her high school sweetheart, on Oct. 3, 1970. He was an Air Force pilot. They have mostly lived in WV. Tom got the first paternity leave from WV to be a full-time father for a year in 1978 and was interviewed on NPR. After working for public broadcasting, in 1980 he became director of communications for the United Methodist Church. Bettijane was president of WVNOW and started Women's Unity Day, as well as Wesley Players at her United Methodist Church. She taught full-time for 27 years in 4 states and has performed in community theatre and chorus. Their daughter Renee was born May 27, 1977 and she is a lawyer, also a WVU graduate. BJ has retired from teaching and returned to travel, writing and reading. They are enjoying babysitting granddaughter Olivia Frymyer born June 10, 2011.
