Betty's Story

Life Nearing the big 50 and enjoying life more than ever before. Moved from the Midwest 3 years ago to the warm Sonoran desert and am enjoying soaking up the sun! I'm delightfully married now for 15 plus years to Matthew Frable. We have 2 children together and Matthew has been the only father my 25 year old daughter has ever known. I was previously married, way too young, back in the late 70s, divorced 4 years later, had two children in that marriage. Due to state custody issues and difficulties with my X...imagine that!...I did not raise my oldest son beyond the age of five. Our relationship is still estranged and difficult. My oldest daughter lives with us while working full time and working on completing her college degree. My youngest son is almost 14 and has Asperger Syndrome, a type of high-functioning Autism. My youngest girl is 11 and has ADHD, possible bi-polar. So, my younger children keep me fully occuppied one way or another and I happilly stay at home, juggling thier needs and issues and regrouping while they are at school! I haven't worked at any true profession since my youngest son was born. It was pretty obvious from the outset that he had special needs to be addressed. My husband is a music/drama teacher at a Catholic high school, a community chorus director and an Associate in Ministry with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (an AIM) and Minister of Music with a local Lutheran Church. We were married while he attended the Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH where I had worked for over 13 years as librarian and bookstore manager. Never thought I'd marry a student and certainly not a minister! Matthew has brought so much to my life and enhanced it in a million ways with music! He plays organ, piano and various other instruments, directs vocal and bell choirs, organizes worship services for his church poistion. His school duties encompass choirs, bands and stage productions. Over the years I've been involved with his church choirs ...Expand for more
and stage productions and enjoyed every minute of his direction and guidance! I'd say the highlights of my life since leaving Geneva, aside from my current husband and children, have been my involvement in drama and music. I've had a few stints on the stage in school and community productions...A Runner Stumbles, Major Barbara, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and many church choir and community musical groups. I always did love to sing and found drama a great stretch of my hidden talents. My ambition upon graduation was to become an English and History teacher. Never finished my degree but, as every mother can attest, I've been a teacher since the day my first child was born. I continue to love writing, reading and absorbing life history. We truly enjoy our new desert lifestyle. While I miss the beauty of a fresh snowfall, I do not miss the cold and ice! It's wonderful having year round gardening, sun and months of swimming in our backyard pool. I once thought we'd just live here while our son with Autism received special schooling and then we'd return to the North....I've changed my mind and plan to stay where it's warm! I know I technically graduated with the class of '75 and still have many fond memories of that final year but....my heart belongs to the class of '76 and always will. So, any of you out there from '75 or '76 I'd be delighted to hear from you. My oldest sister, Ann, attended the big 40th reunion of her class of '65 and had a great time. She and I plan to attend the next reunions together. I'm sure, if you remember me, you remember my chubby-self. I'm much fitter now and am a size 14...a size I haven't been since 6th grade! Realized when I moved to the AZ heat I wouldn't survive without losing many, many lbs! I had gastric bypass a year and a half ago and have never felt better! I'd no idea being fit was so much fun! My husband and I recently started dance lessons and I must say shaking what my momma gave me is great!
