Betty's Story

Life Attended Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago after high school graduation. Married John Oertel in 1956, had two kids (John, Lisa) in 1959. Moved to Minneapolis in 1961 to open a business. Son, David, was born in 1963. Business opportunity opened up in Houston, TX - moved in 1964. Became active in League of Women Voters, local politics, and the Unitarian Church. Rebecca, is a physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Daughter, Lisa, married to Tom, interior designer and great mom of my four grandchildren, live in Austin, TX. Son, David, earned doctorate in music and conducts orchestras and musicals in Greensboro, NC and surrounding area. I am still living in Houston and am active with the League both state and local focusing mainly on children's issues. Children Rock!
