Bev's Story

Life I've been working w/the Air Force for over 23 years as an executive officer in operational contracting. I have a new cat now: Lori. She's five years old. Has a wonderful personality. I'm an aunt to three very adorable nephews (KJ:13, Tommy: 9 and Evan: 7. I spoil them like crazy when I can. Work about five miles from the beach, love the weather in soCAL! Over three years ago, I got a promotion and wonderful things have happened since that day. I was appointed the Federal Women's Program Manager at Los Angeles AFB. Last year our guest speaker was in the 1936 Olympics. She was the US champion in the 200 breast! She also was a member of the Women's Auxillary Ferrying Squadron later renamed Women's Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs). Her name was Iris Critchell! What an awesome woman. She and her WWII hubby live in Clairmont and she flew her Cissna 172 from LaVerne Airport to Hawthorne at 86 years young. This year we had our first female Vice Commander Brig Gen Ellen Pawlikowski speak. The last three years I've also attended the Federally Employed Women's National Training Program in different states: GA, DC and CA. This year the conference was held in Anaheim, basically in my backyard! I was part of the committee. The average attendance for the conference is almost 2000 people. Aug 08, my mom and my oldest nephew KJ came down to spend a week with me. We went to four amusement parks in four days (this was mom's idea). KJ had a lot of fun. I hadn't seen him in five years, since Keith decided to move his family to NC. Oct 2007, I decided to go back to school to pursue my bachelors, okay it only took 26 years to decide. I'm getting my bachelor's in business management and I want to become a contract special...Expand for more
ist with the Air Force. Some day I want to retire from the government and would like to make more money than I do right now. My name has been mentioned a lot at work to be part of other committee's: I am the Air Base Wing Dining Out point of contact and we have over 1000 people in the ABW. A dining out is a black tie affair with all the pomp and circumstance that goes along with it. I've also been asked by our director of staff to chair the Women's Leadership forum in Nov for the Air Force week. There were be a number of female general officers and senior executive servants, which are equivalent in rank to a general. And I have no idea what I am suppose to be doing....little ole me! On the personal front. I am still single and not dating. You think that since I work with a bunch of military men that I would get snatched up. I never thought I would still be single. I have some very close gal pals that I do stuff with. Last year, we went to Napa to do some winetasting and learn to make our own wine. It was fun. My wine is called 49er wine...after the SF 49ers!! We've done some winetasting in Temecula and Santa Barbara areas. Since working with the Air Force, I have had the chance to travel on official business and personal leave. I have been to Hawaii, Colorado Springs, Texas, New Orleans, Chicago, Atlanta, NC, Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, Boston, NH, Maine, RI, Conn, Phoenix. Next year, I will be in Orlando. I love to travel. My mom became a widow in Nov 2008 and is still working. She keeps very busy with church and her friends. Betty lives in south Sacramento in a care home. As I mentioned before, Keith and his family live in NC. He is a long haul truck driver and loves it. Bye for now! Take care!! bev
