Beverly's Story
OMG the Dondero Class of 1968 has been immortalized. A Group Photo from our senior trip to Washington, D.C., is in a book! "IMAGES OF AMERICA - ROYAL OAK." These books are seen in gift shops everywhere and contain historical information about a specific geographical area and the cover has a sepia-toned photo from years past. I cannot find myself in this photo, perhaps because I was on the bus that broke down halfway there and we missed a day of events. But the front row is quite recognizable. There also is a book on the "DREAM CRUISE." Can order online at ARCADIAPUBLISHING.COM.
Yep, I had to be different, I cut my hair off for my senior photo. My hair would NOT flip and I had to be different like Twiggy. Today I am a little fatter, a little disabled, and a little less ambitious. I have had success and a very good life here in Arizona; although I would not encourage anyone to move here since AZ is running out of fresh water.
Sept 2003, Tucson, AZ; I almost died while working a night shift at AOL. I had an aneurysm rupture in my brain, UGH. Never knew I had an aneurysm, and never did drugs during the 60s, and no family history. I suffered a stroke during brain surgery, but thanks to the good hands of surgeon and professor, Dr. Gabrielle Portillo-Gonzelez, of the Arizona School of Medicine, UMC, and the good Lord, I survived; walking, talking and mostly potty trained.
From that experience, I learned that God is good, my children, my Dad and family, the hats from my sister-in-law, and all those prayers from old neighbors and family were supportive and helpful for my recovery. My daughter would hide in my tent bed with me and try to spend the night. One night, at my request, she wheeled me outside in a wh...Expand for more
eelchair after hours and we got locked out. Hah. HealthSouth/Scottsdale AZ was really a GOOD experience for my recovery. I believe in Angels too. Yes, I did have an Angel experience.
I moved to Arizona in 1973. I have two children Jason and Desiree and I am finally a Grandma. I lived and worked in Phoenix for 30 years then moved to Simpsonville, South Carolina. I was a legal secretary working in Elder Law and Wills then I worked for a trial attorney. After 911 we came back to Arizona, but Tucson instead of Phoenix. My father also passed away and we buried him on St Patrick's day at Roseland Cemetary. I miss him very much as he was the one who encouraged me to WALK THE MIGHTY MAC after my stroke and I have walked it nine times. Post stroke. WOOO HOOOO.
I live in Michigan now. Yeppers I got outta Dodge. Arizona is too HOT; too BIG now. I love the quiet beauty in the Michigan woods after a snow or rain fall (Seven Bridges my fave).
I made it to the 50th reunion.and the 55th Mini Reunion. I missed the 30th and 40th (attended the 10th and 20th) and I really enjoyed seeing my old neighbors and classmates from ALL those years ago. We lost Karen Bakke to cancer in 2010. Please, pray for a cure for cancer. She was such a beautiful friend and neighbor. I am so sad I can't see her again. There is a photo of us in Halloween costumes when we were kids in my photo album..
I have learned a lot over the years; how to support myself and my family, how to cook good bbq ribs and chicken, how to KEEP THE BEAT AND DANCE. All true and I am proud of it. We grew up in the BEST of times. I hope you are ALL well and thriving. Godspeed to you and please write to me at ******bw49646 at aol.com********
