Beverly's Story
Life
I grew up in this area, attended Belvue Grade School & Wamego High School. I worked at K-State for two years and then decided to attended college. I started going to K-State full time in 1970. I graduated in 1975 w/ a degree in Physical Education & Health. I went back to school part time & picked up a degree in Recreation. In 1978-1979 I taught at a small school down by Herington. I didn't like it, so I came back home & went to work at Balderson's (now Caterpillar). I worked there for over 18 years. We had previously (in 1994) adopted a little girl & I decided I wanted to spend more time w/ her than my job was allowing, so I resigned in December 1997. I took two months off, then went to work at Paxico Grade School as a Paraeducator. I really liked it , but it was too far ...Expand for more
to drive (for no more than the job paid) so I transferred to Wamego Middle School, after 2 1/2 years. I have taken some classes at Highland Community College, but really need to take classes at K-State to renew my teaching degree. If I could afford it, I would like to go back to school & pick up my Elementary Ed. degree, but tution is SO high. I would almost be retirement age by the time I received the degree, if I went back part time, sooooooooooo I don't know. I DO like what I am doing (working w/ Special Ed. Children) & I have the same hours as my daughter. Anyway, now our daughter is 13 years & will be in 8th grade next year. She is active in 4-H & enjoys music. I enjoy remodeling our home that we purchased in 1986. There is always something to do when you buy an older home.
