Beverly's Story

LIFE I have shown and bred dogs since 1962. Started out with Doberman Pinschers, then Schipperkes in 1975 and Pomeranians in 1987. I was a professional dog handler for about 10 years and an American Kennel Club licensed dog show judge for 24 years. I lost my last Schipperke in August of 2016, 2 months short of her 17th birthday. I have an 11 year old black cat and a 1 year old brown tabby kitten. I love country and bluegrass music - the Goldwing Express, Gene Watson, Merle Haggard, Jean Shepard and Josh Turner being my favorite artists. But there will always be a place in my heart for Elvis and Neil Diamond. The only sport I follow is the PBR, which is professional bull riding. Ryan Dirteater is my favorite cowboy and my favorite bulls are Bushwacker and Chicken On A Chain, both now retired. My most memorable trip was in 2002 when we spent 3 months in western Canada and Alaska. I particularily loved the Yukon and Dawson City in particular. The trip over the Top Of The World highway was spectacular, however, "highway" is not exactly what my description of the road would be. But if you ever have the chance, don't pass it up. SCHOOL The teacher who inspired me the most was Mrs. Della Thompson at White Oak School in Smicksburg, PA. It was a one room school and I was the ...Expand for more
only person in 6th and 7th grade there. Later, in 8th grade, I went to a 2 room school. There were 5 of us in 8th grade and I was the only girl. I had a different teacher but Mrs. Thompson taught in the other room so continued to influence my life. I remember sitting with her, listening to MacArthur's resignation speech on the radio. I stayed in touch with her for many years after I left the area. WORKPLACE My most interesting job was doing illustrations for the training manual for the atomic powered submarines - Seawolf, Skipjack, Nautilus, etc. The company I worked for was subcontracted to Westinghouse for this job. In 1980 I accepted a position at Mobil Oil Corporation in the geological drafting department. I was the first one in the group to be put on a computer when they became available. I loved every minute of computer graphics. When Mobil and Exxon merged I was retired at the end of 1999. Several of the people I worked with and I still get together for lunch as often as we can. RETIREMENT I love being retired. After my husband passed away I bought a small house near my daughter. I was President of the Schipperke Club of America, an officer of the Lone Star Schipperke Club and am a trustee for the SCA Rescue and Health Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable trust.
