Beverly Polcyn's Story

Being single at this age is so interesting. Finally having the time to be introspective, discover who I am and how my presence matters in any given moment to others around me is enlightening. I like me; I really like me! Not "needing" anything I can't give myself is empowering. Many life goals have been accomplished, but I can see many yet to be conquered that I hadn't dreamed of when I was younger. Life is becoming more fascinating (and so am I). When I was in high school I thought people in their 60's were set in their life styles, without needing change. (Insert yawn here.) I was so completely wrong. After experiencing several phases of life I've come to realize life is a journey that is never ending. When one phase ends, another begins. I will always be the same cloud dancer inside, with the same desires of the heart but with different dreams as time goes on through eternity. Our generation is so blessed with the opportunity to be forever young. My inspiration? Tina Turner, Cher and Sophia Loren. My alter ego? Elvira! (wink!! wink!!) We live in an old farmhouse built in 1910, lots of dormers (with cats in the windows) and secret hiding places! We sold our ...Expand for more
family's old homestead outside of town and incorporated the antiques into our home and yard. Mel's father farmed with horses and hand plows! Our place looks like a living museum in the summer. I turned the living room/dining room into an Avon Beauty Center to supplement SS. Put my mother-in-law's wood burning stove and ice box in the shoppe, with some old family trunks from the turn of the century by the fireplace. Our home is on 1/3 acre corner lot, so we planted a garden this summer and it turned out so well we're going to expand next year with pumpkins and squash and lavender in addition to the tomatoes, onions, peppers, corn, carrots, lettuce and sunflowers. Mmmm, I might be turning into a vegan. It makes me happy to know that old friends have thought of me. Sorry I have not replied to most of you. My husband is not well and I am his caregiver as well as working full-time. The love of my life had a series of strokes and is now in the middle stages of dementia. MDs are amazed he has survived the strokes so well. Every winter I wonder if it will be our last together. Its very difficult to see him slip away. Our son is living with us and is the sunshine in my day.
