Hello to all of my old classmates. I started kindergarten at Ruth K. Webb Elementary School (I see that it is now just called Webb) 1964-1965. My family then moved to SE DC where I started 1st grade at Randle Highlands Elementary School from 1965 - 1971. I can remember one of our christmas plays where we performed "A Christmas Carol" then we had a group of guys that performed "Ball of Confusion" by the Temptations...I can't believe I remember all that. And behind the school up the hill through the woods (where he had no business going) there was a family that had 2 llamas in the yard. Remember Vernon Mosby that lived right across the street from the school and was late every day. Wow..those were the days. We could walk anyplace and never worried about anything. I can remember the teachers, especially Mrs. Nissin. She was a very special teacher. She used to bring her guitar to school and we'd sign songs...kids today look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them how it was back then. We had fun. Today's kids don't know what it means to be a kid. In 1971 I attended Sousa Middle School and that was great. I lost a very dear friend in 7th grade, Nenomoshia Yates, and that's when "fear" first set in that we were not as safe as we thought. She was a victim of the Freeway Phantom and it still bothers me to this day, that this person has never been bought to justice over the lives that he took and destroyed. A few years ago I tried to have the case reopened and was interviewed by Joe Krebs. He tried to get information from the detectives that handled the case back then but seemed to keep hitting against walls and nothing ever came out of it. Still, it haunts me. In school I cared less about sports. But NOW...I am a DIEHA...Expand for more
