Beverly's Story
Life
Roy and I were married in Fort Dodge on Nov. 6th, 1954. Soon after that we moved to Ames, Iowa, for Roy to finish his degree in Mechanical Engineering. After this we moved to West Des Moines, Iowa, for about a year. At this time, we decided to have our first home built.When we moved into our new home in Feb. 1961, I was on my way to having our 4th child. We lived in this home until 1980,2 children later. In 1980 Roy was transferred to Hamilton, Ohio, and we have lived in our home here for nearly 25 years. We have 6 children, 6 grandchildren,(and 1 deceased),as well as 4 great-grandchildren. We celebrated our 50th anniversary on Nov. 6th, with 50 friends and relatives. Then on Dec. 26th, we left for Maui, Hawaii for an anniversary vacation. myself busy with ceramics, art classes and gardening. Since I have moved to Ohio, I have done a little stained glass, gardening, and a lot of traveling. I still enjoy going to the theatre, especially musicals. Cincinnati has a lot to enjoy, and at one time I volunteered at the Cincinnati Zoo, where I served as an interpreter in the Lowland Gorilla area. Now, I keep busy in the flower gardens at our home. I suppose some of my favorite trips were to Kenya, Africa, and to Greece, Turkey and the Greek Islands. Of course my favorite vacation spot to relax, is Maui.In our younger years we spent every summer weekend camping, boating and water skiing. Between the years 1969 and 1982, we also enjoyed raising and showing Great Danes. That kept us very busy. I miss the dog shows,and the many friends we made during those years. We have been retired since June, 1995, but still keep very busy with family and friends.
