Billie's Story
I was Bill Martin in High School, have changed gender and now go by Billie Jean Martin
Studied Computer Science at Washington University in St. Louis
After fall that broke my back, attended Fort Lewis college in Durango for 2 years.
Post graduate courses in computer science at CU (Boulder and Denver campuses)
Pre-0p mtf transgender former software engineer with Parkinson's Disease. Now retired on social security disability and pension. I have no driver's license due to Parkinson's.
We had 10-1/2 week premature twins (she: 1 lb 13-1/2 oz; he: 2 lbs 4-1/2 oz.) They are now 23 years old, Daughter graduated summa cum laude with degree in early childhood education and minor in Spanish for which she took classes in Malaga, Spain and Costa Rica. She now works in a bi-lingual 5th grade classroom in Jeffco. My son graduated with degree in computer science and a business minor. He is working on new interfaces to google maps up in Boulder.
I am starting life over again after kids graduated from college. I have been living life for the last year as the woman I am. I have mobility issues due to a 43 degree scoliosis - due to a 50 foot fall. I use a wheelchair or a walker, but walk s...Expand for more
hort distances without aids. I am working on increasing that distance.
Until 2 years ago, I was working full time at Lockheed Martin (35 years, but then I fell, hitting the corner of the coffee table. The result was three broken ribs and a position on the short term disability list. I completed surgery that lessened the Parkinson's symptoms. It was amazingly successful, I am walking normally and the tremor is all but gone.
By the time the kids were 13 years old, they had been to all 50 states, all counties in Colorado and about 8 foreign countries.
I enjoy travel, the outdoors and people.
I have climbed all Colo 14ers, Mauna Kea, Olympus (Mitakas), Killimanjaro (Kibo), Kosiosco.
I have skiied all Colo ski areas.
I have visited Europe, Africa, Central America, Australia, Bora Bora.
While at Central, I worked with medical program in Honduras (where the government has credited the program with increasing the average lifespan by 7 years) and Guatemala. I also did volunteer work in Denver VA Hospital.
My marriage ended as kids have left for college and as I have transitioned from male to female. My wife has been encouraging me to make new friends. We are living in different cities.
