Bill's Story
Life
Married for 16 years to Pam (Wayzata High School) with three children (Anne--12, Elisabeth--10, Matt--5). Resides in Edina in a constant fixer-upper home near Minnehaha Creek with dog Teddy (6 y.o. Australian Shepherd), assorted fish, and Hapgood, the Bearded Dragon lizard. Enjoys golf, biking, downhill skiing, boating, photography and travel.
Professional: Bill has nearly 20 years experience as a Mergers & Acquisitions expert assisting growth-oriented, entrepreneurial companies. He is currently a founding partner of Counsel Funding Partners, an investment banking boutique located in Edina. Bill began his M&A career in 1986 at Western Companies Inc. (Wayzata, MN), an Investment Banking boutique that represented sellers of private businesses. After a five-year stint at Western, in 1990 Bill started his own direct marketing catalog business, Fine Art Impressions, while simultaneously earning an MBA. Fine Art Impressions was an early entrepreneurial business start-up with a physical store located at the Mall of America and mail order operations headquartered in Beverly Hills, CA. After successfully growing and selling his business to an industry buyer, Bill utilized his business valuation knowledge and M&A expertise, serving as a corporate development officer for two public entities: Communications Systems, Inc. (Amex: JDS) and ValueVision Media (Nasdaq: VVTV). Education: Bill received a BA from Carleton College in Northfield, MN (Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa), and an MBA from UCLA's Anderson School. While at UCLA, Bill took coursework in the film Producers' Program and worked in the motion picture industry for two independent film production companies: Edward Pressman Films (Hoffa, The Crow, City Hall, Judge Dredd, Dream Lover, Bad Lieutenant) and Motion Picture Company of America (Threesome, Dumb & Dumber, If Lucy Fell).
Highlights: Adventure travel to Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and wildlife safari in Kenya and Tanzania in 2001. Backpacking adventure throughout western Europe in summer of 1985, multiple SCUBA diving trips, private pilot license, Playboy mansion party during LA Super Bowl.
Favorite CHS memories: rappelling down the side of CHS for outdoor ed final; getting stuck "up to my ass in gooseshit" with Greg Brown and Brian Gutknecht (in the dark) in Grantsburg, WI; having a constant supply of toilet paper (courtesy of Steve Weber and Tim Weber) for TP'ing; Rochester New Year's 1981; Dirty Thirty (especially the pink hankies during game against Armstrong); lunchtime poker in newspaper room; "Where Have all the Dirtballs Gone" headline (and fallout) in Ragg Review; senior skip day at Lake Independence and Lake Calhoun; Jerry Behren's "Reptile Day"; Jolly Rolly; Al and "Chipper" stories; South Padre Island, TX spring break; constant PA calls to the office to meet up with Elmer K.
