Bill's Story
Hey fellow Teckies!
I only went to Ottawa Tech for 2 years unfortunately. Great school, great teachers and great people. I went from 1070 to 72 when my parents retired and we moved to the Ottawa Valley. We lived at Round Lake for about 5 years and I went to Barry's Bay high school. Madawaska Valley District High School. Good school but not a technical school my any stretch. MY profile pic is taken fishing at Round Lake. Our family through my mothers family had the cottage for many years and a house in Killaloe.
At Ottawa Tech, in many ways I surprised myself. Growing up I was never thought of as a bigger stronger person but the physical tests in gr 9 put my in with the biggest and strongest people for physical education. Loved going to gym and playing all the tough games - murder ball - some sort of handball. Shop classes were sometimes a struggle. In gr 9 I was given auto mechanics which I thought would be great however, theory was my downfall. Apparently theory is important! Didn't fair well. Science was so very cool with Mr. Hollington. radio club which I became part of where we sent music to the lunch rooms during lunch. My "radio" name was King Fuzz! Something to do with my hair!!
So many years have gone by and I start working at the Ottawa Citizen. One of the chaps there in the prepress dept seems to recognize me but it was my brother he remembers. There was 5 year between my brother and I and Tim went to school at Tech with my brother Jim. Jim was a bit of a hot head and eventually was sent to Highland Park HS.
I found it so cool that I would run into someone that went to Tech with my brother. Oddly, I have never ran into any Techies over the years with the exception of Don Robertson. He worked with the British American Bank Note and that is where my mother worked prior to retiring with dad. After dad died she went back to BABN and found out that Don went to Ottawa Tech and knew me. So neat!
Well as the years pass by trying to find old school mates would be nice to do. I know we all have gone separate ways but it certainly would be great to see and chat for a bit. Well this was kinda rambling on so will close it off for now.
