Willie's Story
Workplace
After retiring from the Navy in 1991 I went to work in the construction trade working in concrete. Within months several of my friends convinced me to start my own business. I formed C&C West Construction with my son as general contractors. My son soon found out that construction wasn't his cup of tea and moved on with his life, but C&C West continued and flourished. After 7 years though I was tiring of the 7 day a week business myself and decided to shut it down and go to work for someone and let them deal with the business end. I finished my contracts and went to work with International Aero Interiors Inc. in 1997 repairing commercial aircraft interior parts. After only one year I was assigned as superviser of the manufacturing department, fabricating new interior components for commercial aircraft. In 2000 I was assigned to the Program Management department where I design and supervise the modification of commercial aircraft interiors. I have designed and supervised the installation of aircraft interior mods on Boeing models 727-VIP 737-300,737-400, 737-500,737-800, 747-400, 757-200, 767-300, and MacDonald Douglas models MD-80, MD-82, and MD-90 aircraft. In 2004 I was assigned as the Senior Program Manager reporting directly to the department head. In 2007 I left International Aero and went to Commercial Aircraft Interiors as Production Manager. I find this a much more challenging position.
Military
After High School I joined the United States Navy (December 21,1967). I spent three tours in Vietnam (River Boats) before ...Expand for more
being shipped to NAS Whidbey Island, Wa. During this tour I returned to Vietnam 2 more times as part of Airwing 14 and VA-196 (A-6 Intruder) on board the USS Enterprise CVAN-65. I was attached to VA-196 during the time frame published in the book The Flight of the Intruder, in fact the author of the book Stephen Koonts was my Division Officer at that time. I then pulled a tour in training squadron VAQ-129 (EA-6B Prowler). I then transfered to VAQ-131 and made 2 cruises to West-Pac and 1 cruise to the Mediteranian. When this tour was completed I transfered to NATTC Memphis Tennessee as an instructor for the Egress Systems School there. I transfered from there back to NAS Whidbey and VA-145. Shortly after my arrival I was involved in an accident that almost ended my militery career. A year later and much rehabilitation I was assigned to VA-165 for another tour of duty. I completed this tour with many awards and honors. I transfered from there to Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) in 1986. I spent a delightful tour with the men and wemen of top gun then once again returned to Sea Duty with VAQ-131 in 1989. We left on cruise in December 1990 on board the USS Ranger and headed straight to Desert Storm, and once again in harms way. Upon completion of this cruise I put in a request to retire that was granted. I retired with full honers in February 1991 after 24 years of service to my country. During my many years in the Military I visited many foriegn places that most people only dream about seeing and enjoyed every minute, both good and bad.
