Bill's Story
Life
Well, the time came to take retirement early (6 mths)and proceed to the "Gentleman Farmer" status while living in Modesto CA. I kept busy as a Docent for the Great Valley Museum of Natural History, traveling around "sampling" the many outstanding vineyards in the Valley & Bay area, traveling to Nevada to do Restaurant reviews for a couple days every six weeks.
Now I'm back in Phoenix and enjoying it. A big backyard pool, an indoor jacuzzi, and three fireplaces! (Bet ya didn't know it gets cool in the Winter here!) There are a lot of relatives here which makes it special to have little grandkids call me, "Papa!" With my 4wheel drive Kia Sorento, I can go anywhere in the West so it makes for a lot of regional traveling. Let me know if you are ever out this way.
College
College was enjoyable and sometimes educational. I started my first year at Oklahoma U and pledged and was made a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. Some family problems required me to move to an instate school so I took one year at SMU and then finished up at North Texas in Denton.
North Texas is an outstanding school with the kind of education I was seeking. Good professors, great cam...Expand for more
pus life, and an outstanding library.
I graduated in January 1960 with a History, Geology, and Psychology majors and minor.
Workplace
My work life was spread over several sales markets. You may wonder with the background in school how did I end up in Marketing? Well, originally I wanted to do work at the Peruvian embassy doing archeology work there. After several mishaps (killings) of existing archeologists down there, I did the obvious change, ...to Marketing of course. I was originally in automotive, with time for Volkswagen of America, then the regional Sales Manager for Gabriel Shock Absorbers (which won for me an all-expense paid trip to England.)
Then it was large room-filling computers followed by personal size. I worked with accounts such as Las Alamos Labs, the NASA Tracking Station, and the wide range electronic telescope project in New Mexico.
Finally I was living in Modesto CA doing reviews of the many vineyards in Northern California and western Nevada. Tough work, NO?
I'm now safely retired and enjoying the life we dreamed about when we were younger. I still hear from old friends from high school and college via e-mail and phone calls.
