Bill's Story
Life
We moved frequently when I was a kid. As a result I went to many schools in Oklahoma and Texas. Since then I have thought many times about all the friends I left behind at the many places I lived. I grew up went to college and have a great life and career, but I still wonder and daydream from time to time about all my old friends.
I recently revisited many of my old elementary and secondary schools in Oklahoma, and got to feeling very nostalgic. I remembered seeing classmates.com, and decided to nose around. It should be noted that that I did not graduate from Putnam West, Mustang or Richland, but I have included them only as a means to search and reconnect with old friends and acquaintances with whom I would have graduated had I continued to live in those areas.
Best Regards,
Bill
School
My most inspiring teachers:
3rd grade: Mrs. Brown, very kind and encouraging
6th grade: Mr. Rollins, he of the very cool Rollins Ranch
Soph: Coach Krause, rough edges, but led by example
Jr. & Sr.: Mr. DP Morris; effeminate, but smart and fun
I was something of a class clown everywhere I went, but no year stand...Expand for more
s out more than Mrs. Popa's 5th grade class at Overholser elementary, in which I got licks on more than 30 separate occasions. (Ouch!) If I had it do do over again, I think I would still be a class clown, but I would make sure everyone knew I meant no malice or harm and only enjoyed being silly and lightening the day.
College
My dormmate at OU was a Native American (Indian) guy who got money from the government every month. Every paycheck he bought a ton of marijuana. It was really hard to study in that environment. I dropped out after one semester...
I eventually graduated with a BS in Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Workplace
I have done a number of things professionally. I painted houses and sold cars through college; I was a mental health technician at an adolescent psychiatric hospital in the early 90s; I owned a used bookstore in Dallas for a couple years after that; I worked at GTE for a year, and then settled at Abbott Laboratories in 1997. I am a software systems engineer, which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day, go to meetings and write technical documents.
