Bill's Story
“Life”
Kay and I met at Cal Poly, Pomona and got married in 1968. We have two children: Josh 54 who is single and mostly works in Alaska, and Sarah 51 who is married to Charlie Mirkle. Together they have three adult children; Alison, Cora and Gavin. ( updated as of October, 2024)
After living in the Bay Area and in Bend, Oregon, we moved to Alaska in 1975 to help build the oil pipeline. We lived in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Valdez and Fairbanks (again). In my last job I was the Senior Vice President of Alyeska Pipeline Service Company and managed the operation and maintenance of the 800 mile Trans Alaska Pipeline.

My main hobbies are guitar (still), sailing, gardening, model trains and bicycling. Alaska was our home for 31 years until 2006. In May 2006 I retired from Alyeska Pipeline and Kay and I moved to our small ranch in Sutherlin, Oregon. We settled in by building our new log home (a piece of Alaska in Southern Oregon), building our little herd of donkeys, raising hay, grazing cattle and rehabilitating our land back to an Oak Savannah.
I did some pipeline related consulting for about ten years, but now I’m done and am fully retired, except for nonstop ranch work. Southern Oregon is a beautiful place. We love it here.
