Bill's Story

After BHS, I attended Catawba College (BSc Chemistry). After graduation I joined the USAF as a pilot then nav/bomb. In 1978 I moved to Houston where I got my second degree, Pharmacy in 1986. I worked as an oncology pharmacist at M.D. Anderson Hospital for two years before deciding to rejoin the military (and get moved out of Houston). USAF said they didn't need me as a pharmacist but could put me back in the cockpit. Turned them down (still regret that move) and joined the US Navy as a pharmacist. Retired as a Captain (same as a Colonel in the Army or Air Force) in 2008. Since then I've worked as an on-call pharmacist in northern Virgina (I live in Springfield, VA). If you want to contact me please e-mail to bill.russell5 at verizon.net (note that's 2 L's and a 5, not 15). I live in northern Virginia and am in my third marriage but haven't had any children. The little guy with me in my photo is Linda's grandson, Grant, with whom I bonded when he was 2. He's quite special. Favourite place to visit is England. I usually go for 2-3 week stays each year. Since BHS I've wanted to visit the home of Wagner and his Festspielhaus in Bayreuth, Germany, as well as Beethoven's birthplace in Bonn. Finally did both. I visited Bayreuth in Sept 2012 and Bonn in June 2013. In July 2013 I also visited the grave of Gen. George S. Patton in Luxembourg. By the way, I cannot recommend Viking River ...Expand for more
Cruises. Ours was badly planned and quite boring. My interests still include classical music and opera recordings and histories but I no longer attend in person, I still like books on many subjects (Miss Millsap, freshman yr English teacher, might be horrified to hear that I'm still a James Bond and horror fan), Instead of opera, I now attend as many baseball games as I can fit in all over the country (favourite teams are New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, and favorite players are Derek Jeter, Russell Martin, Nyjer Morgan, Roy Halladay). Movies I like include Citizen Kane, Frankenstein (1931), Bride of Frankenstein, Casablanca, & Metropolis (1927). Favourite TV shows include The Twilight Zone, Doctor Who, & The Prisoner. Favorite quotes:""and this above all, to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not be false to any man" (HAMLET, Act 1, sc 3) "I can refuse anything - except temptation." (Oscar Wilde) "If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it." (WC Fields) "There comes a time in every man's life when he must take the bull by the tail and face the situation." (W.C. Fields) "Work is the curse of the drinking class" (Oscar Wilde)". Go Yankees - for the 28th World Series win. That's about it for me. What's happened with you? Any thoughts of a 45th reunion?

What was missing in Japan ?

There was an article in the US World Report regarding
the orderly behavior of the Japanese citizens and the
absence of looting after the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear nightmare .

Does anyone in the Salisbury area or past know of any alcohol that can be added to Cheerwine and still be drinkable? I've decided that it had to have been invented by a Baptist because no matter what I've tried (vodka, gin,
