Bill's Story

Life During my sophomore year at East Bakersfield HS my family moved back to Kernville where I graduated Kern Valley HS. I attended Bakersfield College for 3 years (one year of partying with KVHS types and two years of studying). The first year I shared an apartment with Doug Brown, Don Barnes and Mike Hed and have the poor grades to prove it. I later shared a place with Jim and Bill Young and grades improved (a little). In the summer of 1966 I married Michele Chard, (KVHS 66) and a year later we moved to San Jose to continue my schooling. In April 69, our son Michael was born and in June I actually graduated from SJSU with a BS in engineering. (Proof positive that ANYTHING is possible) My two years in San Jose convinced me I couldn't live in a big city. So after a year back in the Valley trying to put together a family owned mobile home park in Kernville (it didn’t happen), I moved to Carson City in 1970 and went to work for the State of Nevada in Information Technology. Carson City is a small town and Northern Nevada is wonderful place to live and raise a famil...Expand for more
y. We are 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe and 30 miles south of Reno. Michele and I agreeably parted in 71. Later that year I was visiting Doug Brown (KVHS 64) and he introduced to a very nice Valley Girl (North Hollywood) named Laura and the rest is history. She is the best thing to ever happen to me and we celebrated our 30th anniversary in the Florida Keys in December 2001. We have lived in the same house for 33+ years. (I designed and built it myself) Daughter Mandy came along in 75 followed by youngest Brian in 78. All three graduated University of Nevada Reno and two are now living in California. (What’s with that?) Oldest two are married, and first grandbaby arrived in May 2003 and second in November 2005. Oldest boy lives in Reno, daughter in Roseville and youngest son in LA where he is a writer/photographer for Motor Trend magazine. Photo of "the group" is part of my Classmates NOW photo. I retired from the state in June 2003. It was hard becaused I loved my job. I'm still trying to decide "what I will do when I grow up". I’m working on it.
