Billy's Story
Life
Common life... in 1972 I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas; then in 1980,a Masters of Arts degree from Baptist Christian University in Shreveport, Louisiana, and a Doctor of Ministries degree from the same institution two years later.
While in college, I formed a Christian music duo with BILL DeFORD called "The Real Ones", and from 1970 to 1972, we sang for camps, revivals, and youth rallies all over Central Texas. We were also a part of a local television program on KCEN-TV out of Temple, Texas, on Sunday afternoons in 1971 and 1972.
I met DELL HARRELL while conducting a puppet seminar at Ingleside Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, during the fall of 1974. We were married the next March and were blessed with four children during the next 12 years.
By 1996, I had pastored seven churches in Louisiana and Texas. Most of these were small "country" churches, so I taught school for 16 years, mostly in Christian schools where I sometimes doubled as administrator. Somehow, I found the time to author over 100 Christian songs (unpu...Expand for more

But as sometimes happens, my wife and I drifted apart mentally, emotionally, and physically. We were divorced in August of 1996, and I moved to California, settling in the Central Valley in and around Merced. In 1999, I married GAYLE WALKER ERICKSON, herself a recent divorcee whom I had met over the Internet in February of 1996. I sold insurance for awhile and did some substitute teaching in most of the county's school districts before landing a full-time teaching job in 1998 at San Luis High School in Los Banos.
In April of 2000, I joined a Christian blue-grass band featured in several "singin's" around Merced, California, but the group disbanded before the end of that summer when two of its members moved to Southern California. Then in November of 2002, I became pastor of the First Baptist Church of Snelling, California, serving there three years.
By July 2006, I opened a new chapter in my life when I became Assistant Principal at San Luis High School in Los Banos.
Two of my children are married, and I have 5 grand-children... all girls.
