Bill's Story
Life
I left New Brunswick at 17, joining
the military and was stationed over
the years, in several locations in Canada, and spent 3 years in Europe. I have been married twice,
have 4 grown children, many grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. After leaving the
military, I worked for a newspaper,
then Canada Post, retiring as a postmaster in a small community in
Northern Alberta. I now live, with
my second wife, on an acreage in the "Peace" country. Though officially retired, I still work
part-time as a counsellor in a group-home in the area.
School
I left high school in Moncton, New
Brunswick to join the military. While in the military I was in the
communications field, training in
radio and teletype and took several
other related courses. While stationed in Edmonton in the 60's,
I decided to increase my formal education and attended Alberta College part-time and also took
correspondence courses. After obtaining the required level, I
attended the University of Alberta (Education) full time for 2 years
while working steady night shift.
I was then transferred to Ottawa
and, since I was not allowed a steady night-shift position, attended Carleton part-time. After completing 22 years with the military, I returned to Alberta to pursue the completion of my teaching degree, but my marriage

up at this time and I was left with the duty of raising 3 children, which ended my prospects in that endeavor. I then drifted
into my postal career.
College
Included this in my school bio.
Workplace
I was a member of the RCAF/Canadian Forces for 22 years.
During the final years with the military I upgraded my
education to the point where I was in my third year of
university in hopes of a career in teaching. Due to personal events, I was forced to give this up and complete
raising my three children. I obtained employment, first, with a daily newspaper, then began working for Canada Post.
I obtained, eventually, a postmaster position; first in a
place called Hines Creek, then Fort Vermilion, both in Alberta, Canada. I remained there until my retirement in
1992 then, with my present family, purchased an acreage in
anoother area of the "Peace Country" where I reside today.
I am now working, part time, as a counselor in a group home.
Military
I joined the military because of the limited employment
opportunities for me in Moncton, New Brunswick. While in the military, I was employed in the
communications field. During my
military years, I was stationed in
St. Jeans, Que., Clinton, Ont.,
Halifax, N.S., Whitehorse and Watson Lake, Y.T., Ottawa, Ont.,
Ramstein in Germany, Edmonton, Ab.,
Carp, Ont.
