Blair's Story

Quick note - I hope everyone has a great time at the GVSS 50th Reunion. Unfortunately I will be in Sint Maarten that weekend. I wish everyone the best!!!!!! Wow, how does one sum up over 50 years in a paragraph or two..... Grew up in Rosemere and attended Elmwood Elementary and the Rosemere High. In 1972 after completing grade 10, we moved from Rosemere to Toronto. In Toronto I was moved up a year from Grade 10 Quebec into Grade 12 Ontario and completed grades 12 and 13 at Vanier and then on to U of T. Worked for a few years for HFC (Household Finance) and in 1980 I was hired by The Bank Of Nova Scotia. Worked in the branches for a few years and then moved into Systems Development. In 2011 after completing over 30 years with Scotiabank, I took early retirement. Best thing I ever did !!!!!! Busier than ever now. Have my collector car hobby - I have two cars on the go now - a 72 Mustang, 84 Hurst/Olds (added Fall 2014). My 69 Thunderbird sadly had to go to make room for the Hurst/Olds. Have two son's, both through college now. In 2012 Brigitte and I celebrated 30 years of marriage. I really have to say "Thank You" to all my music teachers for cultivating an interest in music that commenced ...Expand for more
at Elmwood Elementary, continued at Rosemere High School under Frank Warbis and Helmut Winkler and continued through my two final years of high school at Georges Vanier. Playing the Tuba has provided me with a great deal of pleasure over the past 40+ years and continues to this day. While at still in Rosemere, Mr. Winkler gave me the opportunity to play in the Military Band he conducted at that time, Les Fusiliers Du Montreal. He started something that would be with me for the rest of my life. In Toronto I joined the Reserves to play with the Royal Regiment Of Canada Military Band. When my kids came along, I retired from the bands for a number of years. I returned to play with the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada for over 13 years and until 2013 I played with the 48th Highlanders Of Canada Military Band. Over the years while serving in these military bands, I have had the privilege of performing with so many talented musicians in various locations in Canada, USA, England, France and Holland. I enjoy it today as much (if not more) than I did those many years ago in RHS or Vanier. Well, I hope I haven't bored you too much! I look forward to hearing from any 'old' friends... please drop me a line !!!!
