Blanca Lilia's Story
Life
I was born in Brownsville, Texas but raised here in Houston, TX.
From 1994 - 1997 I really enjoyed my single life. Clubs, clubs & clubs - Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, sometimes Tuesdays or Thursdays. My favorite place back then was Olympus Disco. Cumbia became my passion and still is. I actually saw several of school friends at the clubs.
School
I went to James Bowie Elementary and then to Burbank Middle School. We moved to the Northwest area when school was almost out while I was in the 6th grade so I attended Clifton Middle School for the 7th and 8th grade and finished there.
I went to Scarborough High for 1 ½ year, 9th and one semester of my 10th grade year. My parents then bought a house in the Northside and continued the 2nd semester at Sam Houston High School. Scarborough High was a very quiet school; all the guys there dressed like Vanilla Ice and I think only 35% were Hispanic.
My sister Linda & I arrived at Sam Houston to register around 8:30 a.m., so everybody was in class. The slow counselor kept us there ½ day. As soon as we had the chance, we walked out on that counselor. We really didnÂt see anyone in the morning because everybody was in class when we arrived. But when the bell rang for...Expand for more
the 2nd period, we walk out and we couldnÂt believe that there were so many cute Mexicans. We though Low Riders were history and Sam Houston proved us wrong.
College
After graduating from high school in 1992, I attended UH - Downtown in the fall of the same year. I went for 3 semesters and didn't go back to school until 1996. I took 2 more semesters at North Harris College and than got married and didn't go back until around 2000 just taking 1 or 2 classes per semester. I also took Spanish broadcasting in 1995 and did several commercials in Spanish.
I took Real Estate 1 year ago but have not worked in that field yet because I currently have a full-time job.
Workplace
When I graduated from high school, I got a job in a voice mail company and within 2 months I got promoted to Customer Service Supervisor. One month later, to Customer Service Assistant Manager and worked there for 2 ½ years.
I got a better deal in 1995 and started selling cars at Lone Star Ford and didnÂt last there too long because I didnÂt like being outside most of the day. I went back to an office job and still remain in an office.
I'm currently working at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in the Research Department and have been working here for 4 years.
