Greetings All!
I left Montgomery City immediately after graduation to join the Air Force with a big dream of seeing the world and growing up to be a pilot. After two years of enlisted service, including tours in Georgia and Thailand, I was fortunate to get a full-ride AF scholarship in 1974.
I returned to Mizzou and graduated with a B.S. in Business in 1978. Upon graduation I was commissioned back into the AF then sent to AF pilot training in Phoenix for one year. My follow-on assignment was to Germany flying the OV-10 Bronco. Next was to Florida in the F-15 Eagle - the airplane I dreamed of flying.
I left the active duty AF in 1987 after my Florida tour and transfered to the Georgia Air Guard in Atlanta where I continued to fly the F-15. I retired from the military 1n 1996 with 20 years service.
In 1987, concurrent with my GA Air Guard tour, I joined FedEx. Today I'm a captain flying the MD-11, mostly international. I love travel so I'm fortunate to see the world on a monthly basis. FedEx trips take me to Europe, Asia, South America, the South Pacific, the Middle East and even into Iraq in support of the troops. God Bless our young men and women serving around the world.
I married Sally Clark (MC Class of '73) in 1976. We had two beautiful daughters, Amanda and Rebecca. Sally and I were divorced in 1989. I remarried in 1991. Wife #2 came with no kids and we ...Expand for more
had no kids together. That marriage ended in Dec 2007 and I remain single today.
In 2003 I moved from Atlanta to Las Vegas as the result of a seven year project where I founded and ran a non-profit organization supporting the Air Force's largest air show at Nellis Air Force Base. Vegas is a lot of fun and works well for this part of my life, but I don't see me here forever. Maybe full circle back to MO someday? I have no idea at this point. I'm waiting to see where the wind blows me next while trying to have all the fun I can in the interim.
Daughters Amanda and Becky are both married and living in Vegas, which is a wonderful thing. Amanda has a 3-year old son, John, and a daughter, Emily, scheduled for delivery in June 2010. My favorite word is still "dad" but grandkids really rock!!!
I return to Montgomery City 3-4 times a year to visit Mom and sister, Janet Brower. It's always a thrill for me to run into a classmate when I'm home.
Wow! - where has time gone? I remain grateful for my loving family and dear friends. I feel fortunate to have lived out my childhood dreams in a career that thrills me to this day. But I'm not done yet. There are still lots of items on my bucket list.
All the very best to my Wildcat friends. Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, I wish you happiness and the best that life has to offer.
Your classmate and friend,
Bob Avery
