Bob's Story
Life
After moving away from Danville to Richmond before our senior year at GW , I attended the University of Richmond, picking up a psychology degree after opting out of the religion program.
After college, I worked for Universal Pictures for a bit (my claim to fame...playing a dead body being loaded onto a morgue truck while George Segal carried on a foreground conversation in the film "Rollercoaster"), returned broke and homesick, and eventually returned to King's Dominion theme park near Richmond (I had worked there in college), working in management there and at other parks for ten years. ( For GW'ites: Somewhere in there Kathy Grumbles and I were engaged for awhile, but it didn't "take.")
I moved to Baltimore from Ohio in 1988, working for an Opryland USA entertainment venue project (as Director of Operations), and then a Washington international ballet boarding school in the same position.
I started my own Interpersonal Skills Training company in 1996, and also did some marketing for a number of years. I'm in the ice cream business as Vice-President of Operations for a 200-store chain (which means I travel a lot), and have created a dozen recipes that have been adapted as official company flavors, in addition to some 40-plus others. I'm married to a wonderful, smart, statuesque attorney/biker chick (the two-wheels with pedals type of biker :)); no kids. I have often worked with youth groups in the church (even part-time "professionally" for five years), so I have had 40 kids of my own at a time, just for only a few hours a week. ave kids; I'd disagree, but due to the luck of the draw, it's all I've got.
My roustabout vagabond days did enable me to travel; I've been lucky enough to go to Paris, London, Switzerland, and even Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as travel over a lot of the US and Canada...Toronto was a 'second home' for a number of years.
In my spare time, I write (a novel that takes place in my hometwn of Danville circa 1963-1988), enjoy a good movie, and sing/perform; I do a Sinatra/Darin one man revue and sing with a big band whenever i can. (Concert choir and Up with People finally paid off, though both were, I know, borderline geek activities.:)) No more basketball, my knees are shot. :)
I used to spend some spare time searching for my long lost curly hair, but I finally just shaved the rest of it off. :)
We live in Mt Airy, Maryland, a sleepy little town at the foot of the Alleghanies some 30 miles west of Baltimore, in a restored 1897 colonial with a tin roof , a sleeping porch, wainscoating in the bathroom, and a screen door. We love it! I do get back to Danville and Richmond from time to time as I have a lot of family and friends there, and I treasure the experiences and friends I had, and feel richer for knowing all of you.
It would, of course, to be great to hear from any classmate! Thanks to Angela Wilson, Susan Benazzi, Mary Inlow, Donna Hazelgrove, Lee Taylor, Laurie Wilmoth, Kay Compton, Clark Martin, Clara Wetzel, Ed Morrell, Marty Elcan, Sherry Hayes, and the other old friends who have re-established relationships through this venue...it means a lot to me!
