Bob's Story
Graduated from KHS in 1963 and attended S. E. Mo. State graduating with a Bachelor's in Education in 1967. Attended Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, graduating four months later as a Navy Ensign. Served on three ships while in the Navy: USS San Pablo, USS Penobscot, and the last, USS Observation Island, which was home ported at Cape Kennedy, Fla. Served as telemetry officer on board that ship and was involved in telemetry monitoring of several Cape Kennedy launchings including Apollo 11, the first moon landing. After discharge from active duty, stayed in the Naval Reserve for 20 more years specializing in nuclear weapons training and eventually retired as a Navy Captain. e district claim manager for The Hartford Insurance Group's office in Cape Girardeau. Earned a Masters in Business Administration degree from S. E. Mo. State in 1980. Worked for The Hartford for 13 years before being hired by Texas Medical Liability Trust in Austin, Tx, where I worked for 25 years. Was President and CEO of the company the last five years before retirement in July of 2011. During my career at TMLT, worked with the governor and other members of the state legislature in passing medical liability tort reform through the Texas legislature in 2003. Married to Susan Ruopp (Notre Dame High School class of '65) the past 44 years and have two adult children and two beautiful grandsons. Been a lifetime golfer (4 holes in one) and tennis player. Currently enjoying retirement in an Austin suburb . . . Georgetown, Tx
