Bob's Story
Someone ask what I did when I left High School and it took awhile to remember. Since I left NSHS I joined the Navy & served my time, was a Fuller Brush Man, Blue Bird Pie salesman, Lafayette Finance Loan officer, Service Finance Manager, Wards department manager in training, General Manager of Knight Leather Co. (Mr. Knight was my Uncle), Davis Pontiac Sales, Hammond Organ Sales, and Ft Wayne State Hospital (nights when I sold Organs days) to save the money to purchase the Blu-Moo Drive In about 1965. After I sold the Blu-Moo on contract, I was hired as an Air Traffic Controller and moved to Indy in 1970. (Retired 2001) In 1973 purchased franchise, Art Accents Plaster crafts, but before we opened, they were bankrupt. Turned out to be a good thing, went to the auction and was able to buy a Simi load of products for 1/10 the wholesale cost. Sold Art Accents 1981 and purchased the Cowboys Night Club and lost my butt, lol Then I started an Insurance agency in 1981 and still own it. In 1989 along with a friend, we started ABC Beauty College and a Beauty salon a few doors away. He & his wife own it now. With my love for Ice Cream I purchased a DQ Brazier in 1989. I sold out to Arbys few years later. Now I'm exporting used items from flea markets to the Philippines for an ex employee at the Insurance agency to fill her two retail stores. I will leave for Calif. in January to start shopping for 2 or 3 months ...Expand for more
and come back when it¿s warmer again. I made an offer on another DQ about a year ago, but it didn¿t work out. Maybe I should just be happy with stopping in a DQ once in awhile. I¿m sure it would cheaper in the long run. Lol
During that time, I have been married some of the time, at least long enough to have 5 children that call me Dad, 5 Grand Children and 1 Great Grand Child. My sons, Bob Jr. and Dave raced Go Karts starting in 1975 and Dave won 5 National races and the raced in Calif. in the Formula Mazda series and was rookie of the year with two Feature wins as a rookie, something a rookie had not done in the past. He then raced TQ Midgets with one win and USAC Midgets and was USAC rookie of the year with a couple feature wins. In my spare time, I volunteered at St. Vincent's Hospital Emergency room for a little over 2 years. I was in charge of making beds and empting bed pans. Lol
I attended IUPUI and Marion College and studied accounting and business law, but never got the degree to hang on the wall. Maybe I'll do that next year, maybe not!
2010 - Update - There is no updates, lol Still have Insurance agency, but not working to hard, office staff is doing just fine without me going to the office and making a messfor them to correct! Got a new knee a couple years ago, something I should have done a few years earlier. Just like new! If could only trade out a few other parts it would be great.
