Bob's Story

I haven't had a very normal life. Since I made the mistake of telling the nuns in elementary school that I wanted to be a priest, I "didn't have a prayer." Right out of high school I joined the Oblates of St. Joseph but left after only one month because I was so lonely. I left St. Joseph's exactly 1 day after I turned 18. I worked the odd retail jobs until I took out a loan and enrolled at CND Belmont in 1976 where I was the happiest I have ever been. These were also the best friends I ever had and I didn't treat them very well! It was always all about me. I was a pretty selfish jerk. At any rate, I was briefly engaged, but then broke my best friend's heart by deciding to "come out" just weeks after our engagement. She's never forgiven me and I don't blame her. I hope she's happy. I left CND after two years (ran out of cash) and went back to retail until I entered the seminary in 1980 for the second time. After years of hit and miss and a whole lot of denial, I was finally ordained in 1988 as a priest. I left, again because I was lonely, on October 17th, 1989...the day...Expand for more
of the Loma Prieta earthquake. I'm really sorry!:) My dad really wanted me to return to priesthood. I guess he figured it beat the alternative, and I didn't have the cajones to tell him it was my life. So, I returned to priesthood in 1993 where I remained until I finally found the love of my life and left for the final time. Six months after I moved into my first real apartment, I never saw the guy again. In the intervening time, I earned my teaching credential and have been teaching 5th, 4th, or 3rd grade for the last 12 years. I'm looking into traveling a bit next year and starting work towards a doctorate in either theology or philosophy. I'd like to spend some time doing some university teaching. I live with my sister, Sylvia, and her husband, Jim. Neither of them are very well. Sylvia has COPD and diabetes which has affected her vision. Jim had renal failure and undergoes dialysis three times a week. If you're somebody whom I've hurt either through selfishness or immaturity, I really do beg your forgiveness. I know you can't go home, but you are still in my heart.
