Bob's Story
Life
Hi all,
I have been married to my wife Priscilla since 1976. She is the director of the Women's Clinic at Hall Health at UW. I have been a planner with Seattle's DPD since 1985 and am currently managing 24 current planners.
I snowboard 40-60 days a year all over the west, and we have a cabin at Lake Cavanaugh in Skagit County where we spend many weekends skiing, sailing, biking and visiting all of our friends.
Our son Aaron graduated from the Naval Academy in 2003, where he was on the varsity Soccer team. He is an officer on the Nuclear submarine USS Pasedena based out of Honolulu, where he has a condo. He started attending UW Law school in Fall of 2008 paid for by the Navy. He was married to Jessica, a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner October 18,2008, and they own a home in Ravenna.
Our daughter Katie, graduated with a Business Administration degree from Western in 2003 and will get her MBA in a few years. She manages stores for Zumiez and is working towards being a Regional Manager.
We live in Mill Creek, just north of Seattle, where I chaired the Planning Commission for 15 years and the Design Review Board for 10, and various other boards and commissions. I coached and played soccer until 2005, when I had an ACL replacement. Now I will concentrate on skiing (snow and water), Snowboarding, biking, motorcycling, sailing, diving, and my other sports. Spring of 2006 Priscilla and I spent 3 weeks wandering Turkey and Egypt,an amazing adventure we won't forget.
In September 2007 Pris and I travelled to Morocco, Portugal and Spain for 3 weeks, instead of our yearly trek to Cozumel or Hawaii to go diving (scuba). In 2009 we plan a long trip around China, and after that to Ecuador and Peru, visiting the Galapagos and Macchu Picchu, etc.
We still hang out with our (mostly former) West Seattle friends, Stu Thompson and his wife Lynne, Dan Chase and Linda (who also have a cabin at Lake Cavanaugh), Gary Bohlin, Scott Gunderson and wife Mary, Mike Hart and his wife Carol, and many others. Your heart never really leaves the West Side and the friends you grew up with.
Yikes, you should hear what their kids are up to! We thought we were doing pret...Expand for more
ty well, our kids make us look like slackers!
A number of us have motorcycles (my newest is a 2007 Yamaha FJR 1300 Touring bike), and we occasionally get together for rides of up to 1400 miles in 4 days.
Pris and I went to her 40th High School Reunion in 2005 in Marshall, Missouri. She was a 1965 graduate there, where her dad was the Presbyterian Minister. Marshall is a farming community of 16,000 75 miles east of Kansas City. A different world from what I know, going there was quite and experience. Pris and I met when she was going to Grad school at the UW and I was a Ski Bum, living in a VW van teaching skiing and competing at bump skiing events, wandering from job to job that would support my skiing and tennis wanderings. The good old days, but we all grow up sometime.
Now I drive a BMW, have a responsible job, where did I go wrong? At least my marriage is great! Hope anyone reading this sees how much fun I have had in my life.
I had heart surgery in 2000 to replace a defective aortic valve. I was playing soccer 5 days a week and in great shape with no symptoms. I blew my ACL and they discovered my valve had failed when prepping me for knee surgery. So three days later I was getting a valve job instead of a fixed knee. A few months later I was back playing soccer, but on a bum knee until this year. Modern medicine is wonderful, and you really appreciate life after a scare like that. I recently had the ACL replaced as well.
Enjoy life, anyone reading this. Life is short and to be enjoyed with your family and friends.

Workplace
Since 1985 I have worked as a Planner for the City of Seattle Building Department (DPD-Department of Planning and Building). I manage 24 planners and support staff who work on major building projects. In my "spare" time I have been a Planning Commissioner, Design Review Board Member, Housing Commissioner, etc since 1988 for the City of Mill Creek, where we live. I went to the UW and got degrees in Engineering and Architecture, but ended up as a Planner, go figure, but it has been great, but all-consuming. I have been a very large part of the improvements of two great cities, which is very rewarding.
