Bob's Story
Life
I guess this is the place to reminisce about the past, talk trash about the present and dream about the future. Yah, riiiight... As I have done in my past and will continue to do in the future I'll do what I want (within legal and social boundaries of course.) Looking back, I guess it was kind of nice being somewhat invisible in high school, as it helped me become the not-so-invisible person in college and afterwards. Got my degrees in Music Education and Performance from NIU. College life is somewhat of a blur, not because of the time lapse but because of the massive quantities of alcohol I consumed during my college days. Ahh,, those were the days (I think...) Anyway, taught 1 year then decided that elementary and secondary Music education in the ISDs wasn't the place for me. AND -- even with a Music degree I realized that I was frighteningly and disgustingly untalented.
I moved to Colorado in 1980 and, after a bevy of meaningless jobs, ended up working for a company called Avaya Communication (formerly a division of Lucent Technologies) as a Corporate Trainer. OK, so the Music degrees didn't come in too handy... I thoroughly ...Expand for more
and completely enjoyed the Adult Education career path until I retired from Avaya in 2001 when my training department was outsourced to Accenture. I decided that retirement at the ripe age of 46 with no money in the bank wasn't exactly part of my dreams, so I hired on with Safeco Insurance in 2003. Again, where are the Music degrees?
So here it is 2008 and I again face the music of my Training position possibly being outsourced to -- you guessed it -- Accenture. (Who are these people and WHY do they follow me around?) Fortunately for me I have had the pleasure of working with quality people, many of whom I count as friends. I am inordinately proud of my 4 beautiful nieces and my sister, and have been known to stop perfect strangers on the street just to show off pictures of the family. I've lived in Colorado now 27 years... more than 1/2 my life. Evidently I'm doing something right!
UPDATE -- Well my Training position wasn't outsourced -- it was flat out eliminated. So, does anyone want a senior trainer with amazing interpersonal skills, quick learner, good if not a self-depricating sense of humor who can teach customer service? :-)
