Bob's Story
Hi classmates! After our graduation in '78 I went on to UNC-CH on a Navy ROTC scholarship and pretty much partied my way through the next 4 years to "earn" my BA degree in Mathematics (wouldn't recommend that to anyone - the math degree part that is!) and then realized my lifelong dream of getting someone else to pay me to fly airplanes for a living. I joined the Navy, moved to Whidbey Island, WA and flew jets from the decks of aircraft carriers for over 13 years. Cruised the world from a big gray ship. Took me a while to figure out that this was a job for younger bucks, so I finally said good-bye to the armed services and started flying boxes for a living with FedEx. Much safer! Been doin' that now for over 12 years. Currently flying a DC-10 back and forth across the country two weeks/month.
Two months after graduating from UNC I married the girl I met while working a parttime job at Rose's department store in high school (Terry). Smartest move I ever made, although she did go to New Hanover High! We celebrated our 25th a...Expand for more
nniversary last year. We eventually had two kids - a girl and a boy. Ashley was her high school's valedictorian and is in college now (Whitworth University, Spokane, WA) and Adam is a junior in high school. They're both alot smarter than their parents ever were.
I usually spend my days off from work doing things that involve my kids, as I'm sure many of you do. We do alot of hiking and backpacking in the Cascade Mountains with the Boy Scouts. Adam should make Eagle Scout within the next year. Also, I love spending the spring afternoons watching him play baseball for his high school team.
We all travel back to Wilmington about once/year during the summer to visit family and refresh our memories of what a wonderful place eastern NC is. Who knows, maybe we'll even move back there one day. I've discovered that the second best place to live in the US is in the San Juan islands in the pacific northwest! It really dosesn't rain there as much as you've heard!
Drop us a line if you get a chance, we'd love to hear from old friends!
