Bob's Story

Life Immediately after high school, I was a crewman on a Forest Service Hot Shot Crew and eventually went to Northern Arizona University to earn a BS in Forestry. I spent 12 fire seasons as a wildfire fighter including a Helitack Foreman, Intelligence Officer for the National Interagency Fire Center, and Chief of Fire Operations for the Territory of Guam. I also worked 8 years as a volunteer structure fireman retiring as a Battalion Chief. I served two years in the Army as a Chaplain Assistant following graduation from NAU. After high school, I became a Roman Catholic and studied for Roman Catholic Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, receiving a Masters of Divinity from Mt. Angel Seminary. Following a year of parish work, I decided not to become ordained. I worked in Guam for two years in forest fire, returned to the States, did odd jobs and finally landed a job as a Social Worker for the State of Washington. I started out as a Child Protective Services Social Worker, became a Support Enforcement Officer (collected child support) and now retired 1/1/11 as a Community Relations Program Manager for child support headquarters. I worked for Washington State for 28 years. In 1985 I came out as a gay man and have been in a loving relationship for the past 18 years. Jim and I were legally married 12/21/12. A few years ago, I found an independent Catholic church that is accepting of gay men and women and is generally inclusive. As the diocese was led to establish a comm...Expand for more
unity in Tacoma, I was called by my bishop to be its Pastor and was ordained deacon and then priest. I have now been ordained Bishop and Primate of the denomination. I am in challenging health. Mom died in 8/2002 and Dad died in 4/2005. School I attended Pasadena City College for three semesters and Northern Arizona University for three years graduating with a BS in Forestry in 1971. I wish I had studied more, drank and smoked dope less, and had come out. I attended Mt. Angel Seminary near Salem, Oregon for three years studying for Roman Catholic Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon. I graduated with a Masters in Divinity in 1977. I have no regrets other than I wish I had completed my M.A. thesis. Workplace Well, I worked for the Washington's Division of Child Support for 24 years and was a Social Worker for 4 years prior to that. I have now retired. I am also an Independent Catholic bishop. I was ordained Bishop and Primate of the Apostolic Catholic Church in America on December 8, 2007. I have worked as an EMT, a structure fire officer, and a forest fire officer. All careers have been fun and I wouldn't really change a thing. Military I served as an enlisted Chaplain Assistant at Ft. Lewis, WA from 1971 to 1973. I also served a year in the Oregon National Guard. I left the Army as a Sergeant E-5. I enjoyed my time in the army, excelled as a soldier, and had my first affair with a man while in the Army. There's more queers in the military than you would imagine.

I took the hipster quiz. You've definitely never heard of it.

I scored 72%, so I'm TOTALLY a hipster. Only 2.5% of people are really hipsters.
