Bonita (Bonnie)'s Story

I turned 70 years old on September 9, 2016, so I thought it was time for me to update a few pictures and show off a little bit. I was a bit quiet in high school and, as I've grown more mature, I believe I'm beginning to make up for some of those quiet years. Who would have thought, including myself, that I would have led such an unusual and interesting life? I could write a book. In fact, I am writing a book about my life in Pakistan. I remember sitting in Mrs. Hughey's Latin class, looking at pictures of ancient Rome and the Appian Way without any knowledge that my husband and I would travel to Italy many times and walk portions of the Appian Way. We usually go to Taormina, Sicily, which we call our "Heaven on Earth." Ray's job (my husband) took us to Pakistan and to Taiwan where we lived for a number of years, and, because of that, I've been able to see parts of the world others only dream of. I've ridden on top of a bus in the Himilayas of Nepal, been to the highest border crossing in the world, between Pakistan and China on the Karakoram Highway, traveled to the Kyber Pass between Pakistan and Afghanistan. We lived in Attock, Pakistan which was just minutes from the notorious Northwest Frontier Province. Here, I had a free school in my home each day for the local children. Before all that, I was a teacher. I've taught every grade from one through eight and every subject. For the last eight years before retirement, I was teacher of the gifted. I retired after twenty-eight years of teaching. I am also an artist, although I have slowed down a bit in the last couple of years. I began to study art in Taiwan under two university artists. I have continued to paint since then. Please visit my website at bonniesartoriginals.com. Drawing ...Expand for more
isn't my best talent, but I'm really very good with color. My husband and I lived in an 1883 historic Victorian home in Rome, Georgia. That was our home for twenty-five years, and we loved it's history. We held historic tours of our home and seven of my friends held their weddings there. In June of 2013, we sold that home and moved to the Dallas area to be near that grandson of mine. I have one daughter who is both beautiful and intelligent.. She is a Doctor of Optometry. I have one grandson, Noah, who is, I believe, the reason I was put on this earth. He is my life now. Noah attends the top rated private boys' school in Texas, St. Marks. We work together on his academics and we play together. Noah's a member of Amtgard and I spend every Saturday with him. My grandson has the gift of a kind heart, intelligence, and a tremendous sense of humor. In high school, I think people remember me as a bit quiet. Inside of me there has always been a spark of desire for adventure. I was just afraid to act on it. I've lived a meaningful life, I believe. I've loved the children I taught and keep in touch with many of them to this day. I've contributed in a positive way to their lives. I love nature and gardening. My own yard here in Texas is a cultivated jungle. I love my family more than anything in the world. I sometimes wish I could relive some of those school days of the past with the heart and mindset I have now. How different things might have been. I have memories of classes and people from high school. I remember clearly the people who were kind to me, even though I was somewhat withdrawn. I surely won't be around for another 70 years, so it's time that I tell those classmates "Thank You," from my heart. You know who you are. Bonnie
