Octavia Bonnie Zison's Story

Life Attended Penna. Accadmy of the Fine Arts after the "Brook." Music was always prominant, and became my calling. I lived in NY, got married at 21, single by 26. Moved to Denver then Frisco. Did legal name change to Octavia, worked well with the music biz. Cut an album in 86. Moved to England in 87 married a British man, at 37, had a son in England in 89, daughter in 92. Moved back to the states in 89. I am currently working as a musician in 2 bands. My Blues band is called: "Octavia and the Earthblood Blues Band" Still suckin on that mean ass harp, still playin my giutar, and singin. I found some fun raunchy material from the 20's and 30's that is very entertaining. I also lead a classic vocal jazz standards trio called "Infusion with Octavia" We cover some Ella, Billie, Gershwin, Bette, Barbara, Frankie, and some show tunes. My husband and I are living in Lancaster County Pa, in an ancient log cabin raising our children. I am very pleased to say my kids school district is vastly improved over the crappie attitudes most of the teacheing staff had when we attended scbool. My musical bio, and mp3's from both my bands can be accsessed on my website: Octavia Blues dot com. Two minute samples of 2005's self produced blues release CD of mainly original material I've written entitled: "Down In The Hollow" can be heard by going to: Octavia Blues dot com. Pennsylvania Musician Magazine News from: December 2005 Octavia & The Earthblood Blues Band - "Down in the Hollow" Let's get it out of the way, right away. Octavia's blues harp playing is freakishly good. She holds a note on "A Cold Day in Hell" so long it almost gives the listener a pulmonary embolism, then ends it with a blues wrap around right into the next verse. "Down in the Hollow" is a collection of original blues compositions, with the exception of a cover of "...Expand for more
Unchain My Heart," and showcases most of the skills of this singular Lancaster talent and her excellent band. Her vocals are a sultry combination of velvet and gravel, capable of morphing from a hushed vulnerability into an indignant, bellowing roar. Beyond the brilliance of Octavia's mastery of the blues idiom through her instrument, her writing, and her vocal interpretation, the CD is also a guitar album, with Bill Wasch's blistering solos standing toe-to-toe with the harmonica pyrotechnics. Octavia's lyrics not only span the typical blues subjects, including the hilarious sexual metaphor in "Service Call," but also cogent, thematic subjects such as altruism ("The Village Will Provide"), and the purgatory into which military families are cast by war ("Indelible Days"). Octavia also has a studied knowledge of jazz, and has put together a live album of jazz standards with her band Infusion entitled "Infusion With Octavia Live At Lancaster Jazz Festival" that is also worth a listen. This is a wonderful collection of original material by a serious, gifted artist that has been immersed in blues for decades and has shared the stage with the likes of Etta James, B.B. King, and Dr. John. Suffice it to say this ain't some 22-year-old limping through Muddy Waters and Robert Cray on a Japanese Stratocaster copy. 2004, I produced my Jazz CD of classic vocal jazz standards, "Infusion With Octavia Live At Lancaster Jazz Festival" Double click my CD's from my site to hear samples at CD baby This link will take you to CD baby My em is: Octavia at Octavia Blues dot com. It's special to still be on this planet after surviving all that 60's stuff! They were magic times and I wouldn't trade places with todays youth for anything! I played at the Kimmel Center 1/1/06, and am playing AC House of blues Feb 20. I'd love to hear from you, Octavia
