Brad's Story
Life
I graduated from Auburn University in 1999 with a degree in public relations. After graduation I worked in Auburn for three years doing graphic and Internet design and radio production and sales. In 2002-03 I worked at a camp in Wisconsin, which was part of my Masters Degree from Wheaton College. I completed my MA in 2004 and I now work with at-risk youth at a camp and community outreach center 40 miles west of Chicago. I got married in 05 and we are expecting a child in 07.
College
I went to Auburn in 94 and studied electrical engineering before deciding that was a dumb thing to do. I switch to public relations and loved it. Graduated w/ minors in journalism and marketing. I did showchoir in college, as well as student recruiters and was a member of the presidential leadership team. I was also a parent orientation host ... wow, it sounds like I was a complete dork in college. Oh, I was also active at the christian fellowship. College was great!
I spent a year at a camp in Wisconsin working and studying, which was the first part of my Masters Degree from Wheaton College. I got a graduate certificate in Leadership and Camp Ministry before completing my MA in Educational Ministries. My two years of grad school wer...Expand for more
e the most spiritually challenging and growing years of my life.
I've considered doctoral work, but then I look at my loan balances and stop considering.
Workplace
After graduating from Auburn, I worked for the Auburn athletics' multimedia rights holder. I started out in radio sales, but then moved to web and graphic design and some radio production.
My year "working" at a camp in Wisconsin was actually for graduate school credit, but I hosted retreat and adventure challenge groups, worked in the kitchen and the barn and did all sorts of things to keep camp going ... along with working the program side of things. During my summer at camp I lead backpacking and canoeing trips in Wisconsin and Michigan.
During grad school I worked as a grad assistant in the camp office on Wheaton's campus ... I spoke to freshmen about opportunities to visit and earn credit at camp. I also did other piddly stuff.
Now I work for a camp and community outreach center in St. Charles, Illinois ... it's called Riverwoods Christian Center, you can check it out on the web if you want. We work to develop and grow at-risk youth into community leaders and disciples of Christ. It's a ridiculously challenging job, but it's also wondrously rewarding.
