Brad's Story
Life
Brad Schubring was born in June 1955 in Evanston, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. His father, a Baptist minister, pastored a church in southwest Minnesota starting in 1959 before moving to Duluth, Minnesota in 1966; the family then moved to another pastorate at Fort Dodge, Iowa in March 1971. Brad attended local schools in those communities, including Birchwood Elementary, Washington Junior High, and Duluth Central High School in Duluth. The family moved to Fort Dodge during Brad's sophomore year. Brad graduated from Fort Dodge High School in May 1973.
Brad had significant involvement in church, music, and drama during his school years, including Youth for Christ and Teen Action in Duluth and Young Life in Fort Dodge. He was involved in choirs, bands, and orchestras, singing and playing cornet and trumpet. Other areas of involvement include drama, with Brad appearing in various plays and musicals in junior high and high school. He also played defensive lineman for two seasons on the football team at Fort Dodge High School.
Brad attended Northwestern College in Roseville (St. Paul), Minnesota for two years, majoring in broadcasting, with concentrations in history and writing courses. But funds were scarce, and he had to drop out after his sophomore year as his family moved back to the Chicago area in 1975. He worked various jobs before attending a broadcasting school and received his FCC First Class Radiotelephone license in 1976, and started in a career in on-air broadcast engineering.
Brad worked at radio and television stations from 1976 to 1982, and was honored with an appointment to be a judge for videotape editing and sound mixing for the Chicago Emmy Awards in 1981. He switched careers in 1983 and became a technical writer, working for companies ranging from engineering to consulting to aerospace to software and web site development, where he works currently.

Brad met his wife Ginny in 1976 at the church they attended in Evanston. Ginny continues to be an exceptionally talented critical care registered nurse, and has continued her nursing practice since graduation in 1977.
Brad and Ginny were married in 1978. One year later, Ginny gave birth to their first child, a girl they named Heather. Twenty months later, another daughter, Heidi, was born. A third child, a son they named Josiah, was born in 1982. Their fourth and youngest child, Laura, was born in 1983.
Heather received her BS in nursing from Chicago's Loyola University in 2003, and works as a critical care registered nurse in a Chicago-area hospital. Heidi works in sales training for Cardinal Healthcare in northeast Illinois. Josiah is pursuing a career in the food service arts; Laura received her state license for cosmetology in 2006, and is a skilled hair and makeup stylist.
Heather married the youth pastor from their church in 2004. Heidi married in 2003, the same year that Brad and Ginny celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
On March 28, 2007, Heidi and son-in-law Matthew made Brad and Ginny grandparents for the first time. Autumn Rayne Slove was eight weeks premature, but did not need oxygen and is doing very well. She's now an active toddler.
On December 27, 2008, Heidi and Matt presented a second grandchild to Brad and Ginny. This time it was a grandson, Michael Matthew Slove. He is also doing well, and is an object of fascination to his big sister Autumn.
On February 11, 2008, Brad and Ginny observed their 30th wedding anniversary, and celebrated by taking a week-long Eastern Caribbean cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas in April 2008.
Brad is a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication since 1992, and was certified as a subject of biographical record in the first edition of Marquis Who's Who in the Media and Communications in 1998/1999.
Brad and Ginny have lived in Arlington Heights, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, since 1993.
