Brandy's Story
Life
A life bio? Wow, okay, let's give this a try.
Since graduating high school in 1990, I have stayed in contact with my best friend Michelle Michaelis and sadly, only a few others. I went to DeAnza Community College for about a year and then had to drop out to my brother becoming ill. I went back a for 2 more quarters then I had to drop out for being ill myself. My brother and I both went through kidney failure at the age of 19/20, but about a year and a half apart. My brother was on dialysis for a year and a half until our mom donated a kidney to him in 7/91. Shortly thereafter, just as his health was returning, I started getting sick myself. I think I dropped out of college at the very end of '91 and was diagnosed with kidney failure at the end of Dec. 91. I started dialysis and did that for 4 months until our Dad donated a kidney to me. Needless to say, my brother and I went through numerous health issues and dealing with expensive transplant medications and insurance issues. My brother's kidney ultimately rejected in '99 and he began dialysis again. He did that until his passing in March 2001. It was devastating, as he and I had grown to be so close and like twins. My 1st transplant rejected in at the end of Dec. 2003, so back to dialysis I went in Jan. 2004. From then until May 2007 I went through numerous hospitalizations, surgeries, procedures, etc. I can tell ...Expand for more
you that dialysis sucks but I made the best of it, if there is such a thing. I participated in the annual Nat'l Kidney Foundation of NorCal kidney walk just about every year from '97 to '06 in the South Bay area. I didn't make it this year, since I was in the hospital for my 2nd transplant in May. Since then, I have had my share of medical issues. I went back to work in Sept. of this year after a 4 month absence. It's wonderful to have energy, not being restricted to a difficult diet, and basically getting back to living life.
I enjoy going to Disneyland when I can. I love the Monterey Bay area and S.F. I love the beach. (Wow, I hope this doesn't sound like a cheesy online ad! LOL). I love movies, music, concerts, reading, surfing the internet, and watching sports like hockey, football, soccer, baseball, golf, etc. I enjoy spending time with my aunt & uncle and cousins and getting to see my mom in SJ when I get the chance.
I am thankful for the few good friends and special people that have been with me in my life and have helped me or supported me at one time or another.
Life is about having good friends and family, so if you have that, you're very lucky. I strive to have that in my life, as well as the balance between work and enjoying free time.
I am looking forward to what life brings in 2008 and the future.
That's about all I can say for now.... more to come.
