Brenda's Story
In High School I was involved in choir, girls' ensemble, Art Club and was a teacher's assistant. I was on the Yearbook Committee for the class of '74, (I wrote the captions for the pictures in the 'Activities' section). My favorite teachers were Mrs. Bloggett (Art) and Mr Craig.
After High School I worked as a CNA, then later went on to college to become a Medical Assistant. I managed the teaching clinic at National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland OR for 5 yrs, was a Collection Manager for 5 yrs, then went back to college to get my Sales and Marketing diploma.
In 1995 I moved to Texas and, again, went to college to become a Med Tech, then Nursing.
I've learned to NEVER SAY NEVER....I never thought I'd be in nursing, never thought I'd ever live in Texas, never thought I'd be 51 yrs old before I remarried (after my tragic 1st marriage of 1 yr) and never thought I'd have blue-eyed, blonde haired children!
If I could go back to high school I'd have more self-confidence, wouldn't think I was so-o-o fat and wouldn't be so affraid of the higher math and sciences. One thing I wouldn't change is the friends I had...we are still very close to this day, even though far appart. Love you gals: Vicki, Sue and Randi Sue (The "Odd Squad"). It's hard to be 2100 miles away from y'all!!!
People who really know me well know I'm not particularly athletic but, I remember ...Expand for more
one award I got in the 6th grade. It was the last week of school in May 1968. It was the schools tradition to have a Field Day athletic competition each year before school was out for the summer. There was a particular girl in my class who was little and petite and WAS athletic. She was rude and thought she was more important than anyone else. Up to that point I had more than one disagreement with her, but was so polite I never told her how I felt. That year, 1968, was my chance to show her she wasn't so perfect. I was scheduled to run a race against her during the track meet. I was scared to death that she, once again, would win the race and I'd have to listen to her bragging about herself again. I was determined to beat her even if I passed out in the process. The time came for the race to start, tension was high, my opponent was sure she was going to win, I was sure I was going to break a leg, or something else, trying to beat her. The shot was fired and away we flew! With my eye on the finish line I passed one classmate after another, but saw my adversary still ahead of me. With all the energy I could muster up I finally passed her as I crossed the finish line. I had won! She didn't even place in the race. I only won a ribbon that day, but that ribbon is still one of my most cherished keepsakes. It reminds me that I can do anything if I really set my mind to it,
