Brenda Gearhart:  

I have spent my entire career in some sort of public service position. I joined the Army in May 1980 and learned Russian at Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. I worked as a Russian linguist in Augsburg, Germany and spent achieved the rank of Sergeant. I got married and got out in 1985. I had my daughter, Rachel in 1986, got divorced in 1990. I went to college starting in 1998 at Lycoming College and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor's in History and secondary certification in social studies. I worked for the state of Pennsylvania for almost a year and then went to graduate school for social work at the University of Chicago, in Chicago, IL, graduating in 1994 wiht my master's degree. I immediately joined the Army as an officer (clinical social worker) went through officer basic and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii for three years.
