Brenda's Story
Life
Mid-life finds me living on the high desert of Central Oregon and loving it. The big difference here is we have no lawn! We're on 2.5 acres of typical high desert country: pumice dirt, lava rock, juniper trees, sage & rabbit brush, and all the other wild grasses and "weeds." We call our lack of effort to tame the land "high desert preservation." The most enjoyment comes from watching the chipmunks, cycles of California Quail raising their chicks, jackrabbits, cottontail rabbits, mule deer, and the occasional coyote (not to mention all the birds). We moved from the Oregon Coast in June 1994 after the fall of the timber industry (for my husband Les). We both went back to school full time for a year-plus. ntly as Clinical Education Coordinator for one of the local home health & hospice agencies), the roles have included opportunities for research/technical writing. Last summer I wrote a student study guide for a Medical Assistant textbook published 2005 by Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins. It was fun and exciting to receive my first writing contract. Fall 2008 enrolled in masters program to pursue a Nurse Practioner goal. Who's retiring? My "spare" time revolves around home: our two indoor cats, sewing (clothes, recent interest in quiltmaking), reading, writing, and staying in contact with special nieces, nephews and the "eight greats" (nieces & nephews). If we had more time we'd do more travel and stay in more frequent contact with friends and relatives. We love sight seeing and have enjoyed weekend drives around Central & Eastern Oregon, getting to see new places and learn more about Oregon history. I'd enjoy hearing from former schoolmates, so please drop me a note. Best wishes to all.
