Brenda's Story
Most of you probably remember me as the PK's kid (Principal Komarchuk "Dr. K's" daughter). I went to Lutheran High School when it was still on Woodridge Street near Gulfgate Mall area! My senior Year Book is listed on Classmates as the 1972 Lutheran North Academy yearbook. So, if you have not viewed it yet, please do and tag yourself so I can remember who you are as well. I can not believe it has been 50 years already! I live in Kansas now. I never thought I would move out of Texas. Well, you can take the Texan out of Texas but you can never take Texas out of a Texan. I am a cowgirl at heart. Quite a change from my hippy, peace, love days of Lutheran High, even though I still believe in Peace and Love. I listened to classic rock for most of my adult life, but always listened to country off and on. Lansing is the town just south of Leavenworth. Leavenworth is the first town in Kansas. Leavenworth High School's Mascot is the Pioneers (LHS Pioneers-WOW)! Fort Leavenworth Army Base is also here. It schools the officers. My sister, Darlene and her retired Army Colonel husband Bryan, moved here 20 years ago. They moved to Newburgh, NY as Bryan took a job at his alma mater Westpoint. They now live in Texas. One of their daughters and her two sons also live here in Lansing. Darlene moved my mom up here 15 years ago. She lives in a apartment in downtown Leavenworth area. She is 91 years old! She has macular degeneration now and cannot drive anymore so I am her main transportation. Darlene helped move me here 11 years ago now. I injured my left knee during a Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in 2009 in Fort Worth, TX. I had to wait a year to get a total knee replacement & got a blood clot in back of that knee two days later, then a pulmonary embolism and laid in the Cardiology unit for a week. I had no therapy on my knee and the scar tissue started healing quickly and the joint froze. My knee would not bend. They did two joint manipulation surgeries after I got out of the hospital the 20 initial days. There was no improvement so they put me in a full leg cast to straighten my leg. To make a longer story short, I have a straight leg but I am blessed, I can still walk. I had a right total knee replaceme...Expand for more
nt on November 1st, 2016 which is doing awesome! I miss Texas! My son, Seth, his wife, Laura and my two wonderful Grandchildren, Samantha Nichole now 17 and Joseph Anthony now 18 moved from Texas 5 years ago to Oregon. My son also has a son from a first marriage, Tyler is now 23. He lives in TX with his grandpa Rick (my X). I stay active in several groups at St Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth. I am in Ladies Aid, help put the monthly newsletter "The Seed Packet" together for mailing and a 8 years ago I became a Member Care Ministry Rep for 19 members of our congregation. I also volunteer my time to count the offering every Monday. God and family are the most important things in life to me. I cherish every moment I can with my Mother. My dad passed away on Labor Day in 2008. I also got married after I graduated and had a daughter, Nichole Lynn. I got divorced 3 years later and then remarried in 1977 to Rick Goebel. We were married for 30 years but sadly divorced in 2008. My daughter, Nichole, died from Catastrophic head injuries in October, 2003 after her boyfriend and her hit a deer while riding a motorcycle on a dark country road. It was a real hard time in my life. The only thing that has helped me is the fact that God let me have her for 30 years on this earth. You are not supposed to bury your children. I miss her so much! She was not able to bear children. I wish there was still some part of her left here, like a child. That was not God's plan for her. I carry a big hole in my heart! I know I will see her someday in heaven. She is buried by the river. I did not tell my story after graduation as far as employment. I did Secretarial/Bookkeeping work for 21+. I worked for a manufacturer rep in Houston for 10+ years. In Spring 2009 the underground utilities company I worked for 11 years in Boyd Texas closed their business, due to the recession. Well, that is my story for now. I hope to be able to read yours as well. To those who have visited my guestbook, Thanks! I have reconnected with a couple of you. Time goes by so fast.
