Brendan's Story

I have a new hero in my life, fellow Bears. Well, a hero that is almost a year old already! he is my son, Benjamyn Louis Flynn. Born September 17th, 2007, he is now a happy, healthy, blond haired and blue eyed little pint size version of me! He is my life, my inspiration, my heart and my happiness. And it helps that my mom absolutely loves being a first time grandma! his grandfather loves him dearly, too, of course and he has a very doting aunt and uncle, too! My oldest friend...would have to be Jason Carter. We met at BCHS after we started hanging out with the same group of people, and hangin' out together doing the CRAZIEST stuff you could imagine. Crazy, as in, either we end up dead, in jail, with some random girls we hardly knew from the bar, or walking home because one of our cars would break down. Fortunately, the jail and death part hasn't occured, but our friendship has spanned the last 14 years, we've been through hell and back together and both of us have sons of our own to watch grow. I just hope they don't end up as crazy as me and J were!! Which teacher would I love to see again and why? simple; Mark Leachman. Why? he taught me the beauty of the desert, inspired me to get up each cold morning, put my heavy ass backpack on and keep going. He taught me how the river flowed, and how to navigate it's waters. He taught me how ...Expand for more
to survive, how to be a team player, how to partake in the survival-and sanity-of my team in SFS, and how to kiss a mountain on the Yampa river for good luck before conquering a massive rapid. If it wasn't for Leachman and the Senior Field Studies program, I wouldn't have been able to nurture my huge love of the outdoors, or be as determined, as tough and as driven as I am today. I owe ALOT to him and that semester. What I would give to see one more desert sunset today! Thank you, Mr. Leachman. You brought out a side of me during that class that I never thought would come out, and the adventures we took just made me a stronger person today. I still look back on our trips with fond and sometimes funny memories that will stay with me for a lifetime. My only hope today is that I can teach my son the beauty of the outdoors, and how to capture it's beauty with the naked eye, as we all did. How do I blow off steam? hang with my son, make him laugh, read to him or crawl around with him and play with him and his toys, I also love to play my 6-string and bass guitars-those of you in SFS might remember me singin' some songs and stuff in the desert-I've been into photography for the last few years, too and of course, working on cars, watching and attending races, and I love to write and compose songs, poetry and whatever comes into my head.
