Life...
Oh My God.. I'm going to be 60 in November !!! FK.. where has all the time gone???????????????
Well jeese, 2/3s is gone, heading into the last third of the race. Time passes I suppose... anything past 90 is gravy anyway.
Guess it's time to update this, last time was at the beginning of 2013.. still in Atlanta but making plans to split from this place. Been here since 96 and its getting old. Heading back to Myrtle Beach, have already bought a place at Market Garden; where I was assigned years ago when I was first in the Air Force. Have a little plaque on the wall there already, bought that some years ago when they were re-developing the base into the little town it is now. Will head there probably around my birthday in November and stay there until April when Atlanta becomes nice again. Will probably say hasta la vista to Atlanta in a year or two or three and be full-time at MYR. Who knew in 1972 that's where I'd finally wind up. Still remember the first time I flew in there, it was a week before Thanksgiving in 1972 and I had just turned 18. Had been to Air Force tech school in Denver (Lowry AFB) and was initially assigned to Phoenix (Luke AFB), but a friend of mine in school was from Phoenix and wanted to go there, so I swapped with him and went to Myrtle Beach AFB instead. I didn't know anyone there and I had met a guy on the plane from DC who was in my squadron and he got me to where I needed to be that night so I could check in the next morning and get organized.
Been a long road since then. Thailand, South Vietnam; West Germany, England and about 25 other places or so; Saudi Arabia, Kuwait... some good, some less than good, but now its about time to play some golf a...Expand for more
nd less and less of the other things. Three careers is enough, although its ironic I'm going back to MYR and where it all began after I graduated from Allen.
My mother is still alive in Allentown, lives out by Muhlenburg College, but that's the last of my family there.. Allentown is so different than what it was when we went though school and graduated; Allen is different as well. One thing I do regret is how its changed, both Allentown and William Allen High School... neither has changed for the better over the years... which saddens me a great deal. For years I was proud of our city and our high school.. That all started to change I suppose in the mid 1980s, and now, well. even with all the new buildings downtown and all.. well, lets just say there are better places elsewhere these days.
Anyway, the end of 2014 is coming up fast... still difficult to get a handle on that in some ways.. I'm a 20th century guy and although it's "the future", you know, it's not what we imagined when we graduated. In a lot of ways, my memories of William Allen have faded a lot, the last time I was actually in our High School was about 1982, when I went to a basketball game in the new arena.. It wasn't the little palestra that we had.. and I remember going inside the school to get a transcript (yes, going to graduate school, I needed a High School transcript), and the halls seemed so foreign.
Anyway, take care all of you and I'll ---TRY--- to get up to Allentown for 2017... I hope you are all well and happy wherever you are, whatever you are doing.
