Brent's Story
Life
My Spouse
On the fourth of July weekend 1984. I had just moved to Colorado Springs after a two week duty in Mississippi for the National Guard. I went to church with my parents because I didn't know where the congregation for singles met. She was there visiting her parents and she got up and gave an impromptu talk and I was smitten. The next day I saw her again at the mall when I was looking for a job and I said hi and her name - and she didn't have a clue who I was.
My Job
Working in my own CPA Firm. Doing taxes all day long and into the night sometimes.
My Children
8 kids
3 years to 21 years.
I am on MSN and live in Salt Lake City
Church
Was a bishop (lay minister) for 5 years and 2 months. Had a great time. The highs were higher than you could imagine and the lows were lower than one could imagine.
My Greatest accomplishments other than those mentioned above (spouse, children, church etc).
As a business consultant I helped a particular immigrant get a $10,000 loan to buy a couple of big floor polisher/waxers. He had 7 kids also and had been on some form of welfare all ...Expand for more
of his adult married life. After his purchase he was able to make an extra $100 a night polishing floors for large department stores like ShopKo. He was profusely grateful for this opportunity to support his family.
Another was a Greenbelt strip of land about 200 feet wide and almost a mile long. It was a vacant piece of land that was supposed to be a greenbelt type park 35 years previously but never had materialized and had turned into blight. I mowed the whole thing down once a year to make it look better and applied for some grants to try to put a pathway down the middle. I organized annual cleanup days and planted a bunch of tulips and irises. I made phone calls to the County engineers and parks departments and finally after the neighborhood did a phone campaign they finally budgeted $400,000 and did a fancy park with berms, pathways, basketball and volleyball courts, etc. My original grant applications were for only $50,000 for the pathway. So now it is a cool park and has help removed blight from the neighborhood and the quality of life has improved greatly for the community.
