Brett's Story
I went to Interlake High School in Bellevue, WA from 1977 till 1981. During that time I was Stage Manager at Lake Hills Roller Rink for the Saturday night bands. Best job I ever had. I also worked during this time at Jack-in-the-Box by Bellevue High School, Herfy's at Crossroads and Gulliver's Burgers at Crossroads (all gone now). I also did a ton of telemarketing jobs where my long hair did not matter.
After high school, in 1981, I promoted heavy metal shows at Lake Hills Roller Rink called "Northwest Metalfest" and was on the road a lot running lights for different cover bands including Shifter and Redax.
I was the first person to book a Queensryche show when they were called "The Mob". My story about them that I wrote in 1997 is at QueensrycheHistory.com .
In 1984, my hair band Lipstick recorded "Daily Grind" for the "Northwest Metalfest" local compilation album which got much local airplay. That song is now featured at the Experience Music Project, Seattle's Rock and Roll Museum.
Thinking we had what it took and with stars in our eyes, we moved to Hollywood in 1985 where we befriended Poison, Faster Pussycat and other 80's bands of the day and knew Riki Rachtmann of the Cathouse who hosted MTV's Headbanger Ball. If you've ever seen "Decline of Western Civilization 2: The Metal Years" you will understand the culture I moved into at that time. Very exciting for a young 23 year old. Aft...Expand for more
er a couple of years we morphed into a U2-influenced band and renamed ourselves October. We recorded an Indie album in 1988 that went nowhere and broke up. After that, I was in 4 other Hollywood bands. Ozzy Osbourne actually partied with us at our house after one show when I was with the band Friendzy.
In 1992, having just turned 30, I decided to hang up the leather pants, quit music and get married. That year I graduated from graphic arts college, then worked in printing.
In 1995, I jumped into Internet Technologies and became Director of Website Development at a local ISP. In 1999, I moved to Orange County and started at a Newport Beach advertising agency where I became Web Division Director.
In 2000, I was the Executive Producer for RAIL's 2 re-issued CDs, now into their 19th pressing. RAIL reunited as a result and now play shows and festivals again every summer since.
In 2005, I left that ad agency and started my own, HoopJumper. We started out with a focus on creating websites for real estate agents. Now, we are a full Digital Advertising and Marketing Agency for all busy business owners, offering Social Media services, Video Blogging post-production and Podcasting, and complete Website creation and managed hosting.
Since 2014, my wife and I have been full-time nomadic RVers, running our businesses remotely, going where the weather is nice, and enjoying all this life has to offer.
