Life After graduation I attended KCK Community College for 5 semesters and transferred to Emporia State University where I married my wife, Barbara. I received a BS in Education. My oldest son, Jeffrey, was born. I then taught Science at West Junior High in KCK until I received my Draft Notice to depart January 31, 1969. I applied for and was accepted in to the Air Force and departed January 29, 1969. I applied for flight school but had to wait on a review board. In the interim I enlisted and went to Basic Training. I was subsequently accepted into OTS and Undergraduate Pilot Training. I had only been on an airplane once, a year and a half later I was a pilot. My second son, Douglas, was born while I was in Pilot Training. My first assignment was to Viet Nam and Southeast Asia flying the O2A, a light aircraft affectionately know as the "suck and blow" because it had one engine in the front and one engine in the rear. My job was to fly low and slow and look for targets calling in air support and/or artillery. I was in Southeast Asia for 367 days. I was then assigned to the B52H at K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI. I was there for 3yrs. I departed the service as a Captain and Aircraft Commander. I returned to KC and resumed my teaching career at J.C. Harmon High School.
