Brian's Story
Life
Wow! It's hard to believe that 20 years have gone by since we all left North! I'm sure we've all had lots of varied jobs and experiences since then, and I'm no different. I've been married for 12 years and have 3 great kids-4yrs, 2yrs, and 3mo-as of this writing (2007).
I'm a Firefighter with the city of Bellevue, WA and LOVE my job. For those of you who know what it means, I'm a "Truckie" and get to do all the most fun stuff like rope rescue, trench rescue, confined space rescue, building collapse rescue, auto extrication, plus cut holes in burning buildings with chainsaws. It truely is a blast!!!
Before becoming a Firefighter, some of my more interesting jobs were: Bike Messenger, EMT at Snowbird Ski Resort (hello free season pass!), Runner for Utah Attorney General (where I met my Wife), Special Ed Preschool Assistant, and a counselor at an after school program for "at risk" youth. I've also been a dishwasher and a meter reader-less glamourus, but they paid the bills for a while.
Some of my past and present hobbies are/have been: playing Bass Guitar in several bands, whitewater kayaking, snowboarding (17 years now), fourwheeling, car re...Expand for more
storation, mountain biking, weightlifting, general outdoor stuff, and, most recently, KIDS!
College
After High School I went to a JC in Idaho for a year. In June of 1988 I left for Chile for a two year mission for my church (if you knew me, you probably knew that I am a Mormon). When I returned in 1990, I finished up at Rick's college in Idaho, then went to BYU for a year, and then transferred to the University of Utah in SLC. Four years later and I had a B.S. in Psychology (insert joke about "BS" and psychology here).
Why so long to get the degree? Well, I pretty well hate school, so I usually wound up working at least part-time and going to school part-time. It was really the only way I could get through it. I could not be a full-time student. But hey, it takes lot's of people 7 years to get through school, right? Yeah-they're called "Doctors".
Anyway, I got accepted to a Masters Program at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington, so that's how I wound up here. My hatred of school and want ing to just work is probably to blame for me dropping out of that program and becoming a firefighter. IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS TO EVER HAPPEN TO ME!!!
