Brian's Story

Life I haven't been to this site for ~8 years... I was at one of the other social networking sites, and noticed that that they were doing "classmates stuff". It got me thinking "What ever happened to that old "Classmates website"?" Well I found it. It seems it has fallen into disuse. For some reason I can't seem to find the "class of 89" list. I barely remember who anyone was.. let alone who I was... No one seems to talk to each other using this site. The scary thing is, I remember all the different computers I owned, and the programs I wrote and ran, more than the people I went to school with. (Please don't take offense, I was going through some serious family issues at the time). I just wonder, what high school would have been like, if I had actually been there for it. People seem to look back at high school as the best times of their lives. I seem to remember it being a blip, that passed by while I was doing other things.. (like hiding from reality with my best friend, Johnny Bitbox) That said, life has been an amazing journey, with it's ups and downs. Other than the fact that I am more outgoing now, I think I am still the same person I was in high school. a curious, intelligent, and confused American. (When I say American, I really mean it. I earned my stripes... I spent four years in the US Navy during Dessert Storm. I was a Tomahawk and Harpoon cruise missile jockey.) This unfortunately caused me to miss the beginning of www.boom, but that's ancient history.. The real story is yet to come. Stand by it's about to get scary... Computer tech...Expand for more
nology has just barely begun to hit an inflection point... Nothing we have seen will have prepared us rate of change during the next 10-15 years. If we take it a step further and look out to the second 35 years of our lives, I can't even begin to articulate. Hmmm, well I lied... I can begin to articulate... We will witness the "birth" of a new age of "machine intelligence". We will see both artificially crafted software constructs that are "alive", and intelligent. They will ask questions and learn... they will most likely develop emotions and feelings... (We are the generation that came of age with the microcomputer.) Around the year 2037, we will see the first digitized human being. (Well actually, digitized human brain). What will the legal status of non biological life forms be? Funny thing, kids (20 somethings) today would all be considered computer geeks in our day... They are hard core... microsecond attention spans... hardwired, computers and technology are an extension of their being. (That's what I've got to compete with in my career. It's given me more than one grey hair.. actually that's another lie.. I've had grey hair since I was 19. And I'm not really worried about the kids.. I still am one myself) It is, however getting hard to keep up with all the innovation that's happening... I used know everything that was happening in microcomputers back in high school. Now, I might at best know 1/10th of 1 percent of what's happening. Cheers, Brian P.S. - It is very difficult to write a cohesive story when all you have to work with is a 7 line editor.
